Well, here we are, starting something about amateur radio. What's your bag in HAM land? I like to try and score a chat with an astronaut while they fly overhead at great speed. 4 conversations so far. I also like the Monday night chatter on the local frequencies here in Melbourne Australia. VHF is my freq. band at the moment. I enjoy getting down to the local radio club on a Friday, but have been a slackie for a couple of months. I also enjoy playing with experimental antenna designs, which, by the way, is why I am stuck on VHF, I blew the UHF finals when the test antenna dropped of the end of the coax. arrrgghh.

Hi BG4XOV,
thank you for saying hello.
The 7, 10 and 11 meter bands are very good for skip, or long range.
I imagine you have had many contacts with overseas friends with the equipment you are using.
I really like VHF and UHF as the antennae are smaller and easier to make.
I also experimented with new designs for UHF, I came up with 1 new design.
I called it a dinner plate antenna.
Congratulations for becoming a radio operator while you are still young.
You should do well with your life.
Good luck with your studies in the future.
