What Kind of Nation?

I'm reading a book called 'What Kind of Nation'. It's about the struggles between Alexander Hamilton's Federalists and Thomas Jefferson's Republicans. The two parties vision of what role the fed gov't should play in peoples lives were quite different. I'm finding a lot of parallels in the book and what's going on today. The Federalists have their Hamilton (0bama), but where is our (my) Jefferson? I don't count the modern day Republicans since I feel they are accomplices to the problems we're having with the Democrats today. Any opinions or nominations for our modern day Jefferson?

Ron Paul and his son come to mind. Since it is unlikely that Reagan will be reincarnated, both of those are good candidates, although Ron is getting a bit long in the tooth.

I don't see any resemblence, in either party, to ANYTHING that would apply to either of the two men. Also, I would say Obama is far from a federalist, he is all about big federal government and miniaml state power, in fact, I honestly believe if he could toss out the 10th amendment entirely, he could. there are very few at the national level who even closely resemble anything our founders would call liberty minded poeple. I have seen Ron Paul and his sone mentioned here already, I will begrudgingly add Dennis Kusinich to the list as he kinda sorta seems to be a constitutionaly minded person, I have heard a few others speak but cannot remember their names. They are out there, but they are few and far between. We need to begin radicly reversing our voting habbits. Start sending more independants to D.C. start sending more Libertarians, and alternate parties. We are locked in a programmed mentality which dictates that in order to be "viable" a candiate must be either Republican or Democratic party member. Wake the fack up America, Both Jefferson and Hamilton are looking down on all of us with utter contempt and disgust with what we have allowed their creation to become.

You are a lot of right there but I have to say that I think Ron Paul could have been him. I dont agree fully with him but he is darn close. I think we need to go through that oppression to truly understand Jefferson. He is one of my favorite people in history, i use his qoutes in my signatures on email. I have gotten a lot of responses to that. I use - The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not. – Thomas Jefferson and Tyranny is defined as that which is legal for the government but illegal for the citizenry. ~ Thomas Jefferson
