Quit or be impeached

The Republican leaders of South Carolina are urging Mark Sanford to resign or be impeached. After the meeting the governor refused to resign. It seems really odd that the governor would not heed the advice from his party leaders in the State House since they do have the power to remove him from office. I'm actually more interested in your thoughts as to why the governor would not listen to his party and resign. Any thoughts as to why he would stay and not resign when the powers that be want him to leave office?

I've totally given up trying to figure out what makes Mark Sanford tick! I think he's got some serious issues, he couldn't possibly be stable and do and say the stupid things he's done and said. I have no clue if he's always been this way or if it's a fairly new development since I paid little attention to him until he went missing. Who in their right mind would publicly say their mistress was their "soul mate"? Who would have the ba11s to ask his wife in front of a therapist if he could please go see his lover? If a Hollywood screenwriter tried to sell this story he or she would be laughed out of the business! This is the perfect example of truth being WAYYYY stranger than fiction!

I didn't know about the therapist thing, I would have smacked him and called my lawyer.

That's the true!! I've heard a lot of strange things but, he takes the cake. His own party is asking him to resigns and he say no?! Crazy!

Once you get that kind of power it's hard to let go! I think they get delusional in what reality really is! What really gets me is when ( and they all say this!) they say they take full responsibility for their actions? Does anyone know exactly WTF this means? I'm fairly intelligent and still haven't figured out this statement! Are there any ramifications involved when they say this? tdemex

"they say they take full responsibility for their actions?"
According to the Politician to English dictionary that means-- I f'ed up and by saying that statement means that you can vote me into office again and next time I'll be more careful and won't get caught.

I'm not sure why he won't resign, call it stupid pride or maybe he just thinks that giving up one more seat to a lib is more than he can bear. He does need somebody to save him from himself. All of the liberal media is just having fun and fodder at his continuous anchoring to his job and obvious falied political career.

You're right, he does need someone to save him from himself! I personally believe that if he would have quietly left his position he could have made a come back. From what I hear about him the conservatives like him a lot and they would probably forgive him for his misdeeds.

Hi Zephyr! I have no idea why this moron would rather face
impeachment then to go with the little tiny bit of dignity
that he could possibly have left if he would resign! He is
really a pathetic and stupid azzhole if he thinks that things
are going to change for him! He was at least being given a
choice to step down and resign or face impeachment! So why
didn't he take the lesser of the two evils? He has already
made such a mess of his life! I feel sorry for his wife and
his family as it is! Why not just face the music and leave!
I guess he would rather face impeachment! He is a complete
fool!

You said it best. He could leave quietly and maybe some day after everything with him settles down he could enter politics again but, he must not want to since he won't just fade out. His poor wife and boys, it appears as if he is trying to make a fool of them as well.

I hope that they don't play partisan politics and let Sanford get away with this. We saw this samething happen to the republican party in Ohio, we had a govenor that lied, and cheated on his taxes (he didn't cheat on his wife, but that is because no one would). Because of this his party was destroyed in the last election. So either way he will be removed from office either via impeachment, or come election time.

Another blue state wouldn't be a bad thing. Ohio changed their color maybe South Carolina will as well.

The only reason that I can think of for the governor not resigning is that he may feel that "the powers that be" didn't put him in office, the people did. I don't know what the standard in South Carolina is for impeachment. I haven't followed the specifics of this case. Has anyone produced any proof that the governor broke the law? I would assume that a crime would have to have been committed for him to be removed. However, as I said, I am sure about the policies in South Carolina.
