Butter or Margarine - Which is the lesser of the 2 evils?

Is margarine healthier than butter? Although neither is considered healthier for you, margarine may be the better choice, because butter is loaded with saturated fat, and almost all margarines have some saturated fat and trans fatty acids. However, if you must use one or the other, margarine may be better than butter. Which do you prefer? I still like butter better.

flora - flora
I think butter is probably less healthy than margarine. These days there are lots of different types of margarine you can buy which are supposed to be better for you such as Flora pro-activ which helps to reduce cholesterol in a healthy diet.

I will have to look for this. My husband is a margarine freak as well as butter. He uses butter to cook everything in and margarine as a spread for his breads.

I prefer butter. But eat what is better for me. As I am getting older. I am getting more health aware.

I don't use margarine or butter like I once did. When I cook I use olive oil or cooking spray.

I would have believed the same. The article said margarine, and I always thought butter would be better because it is all natural and contains no trans fat.

I like butter. I hate margarine it doesn't taste like butter. I like EVERY kind of cheese with buttered bread or buttered pasta.....macaroni and cheese, grilled cheese....so I'm glopping extra cholesterol on it anyway!

I love the flavor that butter brings to food. But, the calories are a killer. I use it in moderation.

I do like butter better too but overall they are both not good for us. I just limit my intake.

Butter is healthier. Saturated fat may make you fat, but trans fat promotes cancer. I'd rather be a fat slob and living than be dying of cancer.
