Diet Sodas: Does anyone else think they don't work?

Okay so I know my statistics and correlation is not the same as causation. That said, here are my observations:
1. People who are drinking and ordering diet sodas are generally really over weight or obese.
2. Drinking diet sodas make me more thirsty than before about 5-10 minutes after consumption. This means the fake sugar stuff contains something that makes you thirsty. Your body is reacting to it. It's not sugar, but it's doing something funky...if the fake sugar doesn't get recognized as calories (i.e. real sugar) by your body, what does your body think it is?
3. Drinking diet sodas instead of regular sodas has not helped me lose weight despite the idea of cutting out empty calories in daily meals.
4. Drinking water instead of any soda diet or not did help me lose weight. What does that say about diet soda?
I think this issue deserves some discussion since so many of us opt for the diet coke or diet pepsi even though we don't like the taste because we think it's somehow good for us but are we deluding ourselves?

I have heard that diet sodas actually make you crave other things, hence you gain weight rather than lose it! And really, you don't seetoo many people who are skinny drinking diet sodas. It's usually over weight people who are consuming diet sodas. Just in general from what I understand they are very bad for your system!

Yes most people who are overwieght are the ones that drink diet sodas. Drinking diet to me is better than drinking sodas. To me its not just the sugar but diet soda is less acidic. Sodas has caused damaged to my stomach lining. Drinking diet has improved my stomach. Drinking water would be the best natural drink. If water is not available the next best thing would be diet soda. Happy lotting.

I think the substitute sugar is not good for our health but it is true that it has no calories. I hear the reason why most people are still overweight while drinking diet soda is because of the rest of their diet and the other food they eat. I try to stay away from all sodas as much as possible but if I do want a drink, I would choose the diet soda
