Will you quit if the social networking starts to charge you?

Just suppose if one day the social networking like Facebook will start to charge users some fees. Then will you still stay there? Or will you just quit it and find another social networking that is free of charge?

A few years back, I used xanga, a site like myspace and facebook. I've been using it for a few years and suddenly they took a monthly fee out of my paypal account. I used the same e-mail for my paypal but I didn't even link it to xanga but they still charged me. I quit the site immediately.

If that happens, I will most probably quit the social networking site. However, I don't think that will happen to Facebook because Mark Zuckerberg, the founder and CEO of Facebook is already a billionaire by profiting from the already free of charge site. It would be really greedy of them if they charge users if they are already profiting from it. :)

I don't think i will continue on being a member of that site if they start charging money... it should be free so that they will get more members... i hope friendster or even multiply.com will continue on to be a site that is free of charge...

I agree with you. If the social networking even pays for its member, perhaps it will attract more members

I will still stay with facebook and friendster even if they will charge users. But I will only stay with them if the charge is minimal and if I can still afford it. I will stay for a shorter time because they are charging so I will only visit my accounts maybe twice or thrice a month. I think gaining friends should be for free and not used for business so I wish that time won't come that those social networking sites will be charging fees to million users.

It really depends on the social network. For 90% of them I'd quit and find a new one but there are a few where I'd probably be willing to pay if it was affordable b/c I love it that much.

On the other hand, I am not very interested in social networking because I don't have many friends there.

I will not join social networking sites because they do not pay me. I try to only do things online that will pay me.

Yes I will. There are other social networking sites that I am using since 2004 like Friendster where I have found most of my old friends and classmates that I have lost connection. I even attended the alumni homecoming early last year because of Friendster. Facebook is gaining more popularity lately and there are adding a lot of game applications. My friends would invite me to those games and I am not really interested with it. I got bored with the games on Facebook already as a fact. There are also some social networking sites that pays while you socialize, maybe thats much better.

It is very bad that I can't access Facebook for some time. But it doesn't a matter anyway. After all, I am not very interested in it.

I will fly away once these social sites put up their fees. Why should I pay when there are many other sites that provide free services. I heard that facebook is going to impose fees soon. Facebook is not all that interesting and it will be a mistake for them to charge fees. Their membership will surely drop and thats when they'll experience a haunted house.

Hard to believe that Facebook will charge fees. It is a wrong decision.

I think I will quit. For there are many social networking sites that memberships are free. It also have the same features that we can all use and enjoy. Why waste a money when you can keep it anyway?

I never have been much of a quitter but in this case, I probably would quit because I'm trying to live on a budget. Money is very tight at my house. I just hope they don't start charging us. It's enough to have to pay for internet service every month, in my opinion. Kathy.

Hmmm i dont use it enough for me to have to pay for it. If Facebook started to charge people i think they would find that a lot of people just left and they probably would end up making very little money! It seems a bit unreasonable to suddenly start to charge. It would depend on the ammount they descided to charge i guess. If it was a very small price and every one i knew was going to pay it then i might. If it was a lot i wouldnt, or if all my friends didnt pay then there doesnt seem much point me paying to talk to myself!

I'd quit. I'm a gamer who doesn't pay monthly fees. There are games you can play that you don't have to shell out $15/month for. I have better uses for my hard-earned $. Although, to be honest, I probably wouldn't sign up with another networking site right away. I'd wait until it got more popular before considering it. I don't HAVE to social network, I do it for fun.

I don't think this can happen as most of the people will quit using these cites in that case. Even I would quit using these cites if they start charging for their services. But by doing this these cites may be loosing the business as in that case definitely some other people will come with similar but free cites to take benefit of this opportunity. But on the other hand it can greatly reduce the spamming going on in social networking cites like orkut. If there is a fees to operate the accounts then all the spammers will run away and only the legitimate and most interested people will join these sites.

Well I have been frightened off Facebook my friend because my account got hacked into and although I have changed my password to a more complex one I am still wary of using it so I certainly wouldn't pay a cent to use it, I can live without it. I am not that keen on social networking sites in all honest. Yuwie drove me cuckoo, with it being so slow, damn pop ups and adverts to skip through all the time. So yes I would quit in an instant if they started charging me, it wouldn't be a great loss anyhow, not for me anyhow to stop using them.

Yes I would stop using it And I would start a boycott! I am not on Facebook but if I were and all of a sudden it wasn't free , I would leave.

I never thought of that happening... but there is a possibility that they might start to charge certain fees, we can never know. If ever they would start to charge fees, I would definitely quit using that social network. I do not think that it's practical to be adding another expense into my budget just so that I can get updated everyday about what is happening to my contacts. I think there are other ways to do get updated with my friends without having to pay for it

Definitely, i will quit them. I don't find any relevance in sticking to the social networking sites if payment is asked. Most of us, hang in there to spend some time, other than this i fear that 90% of us don't have any useful thing there to learn or get. Take care friend and have a good day.

WoW.. if that really happens, I would have to opt out then. I love networking sites very much because it just gives me a sense of relaxation, true joy and especially when there are friends too; the experience gets more awesome. So I won't participate in something that I have to pay. It is like paying to have friends. Good thought here, youless.. makes me thinking what if sites like this becomes chargeable.
