I keep my mobile phone off when I am very tired and badly want a sound sleep. I have lots of friends working in night shifts (my previous job was night shift) and they don't mind waking me up during night; I don't mind waking them up duirng day time when they are sleeping. I also switch off the phone if I am tensed or sad. Do you keep your cell phone OFF while sleeping? How often do you switch off your phone?

I never switch off my cell phone. When I sleep my cell phone always ON. But I make silent my cell phone. So when I sleep, If any call to me that's recorded. That is important things, because I worry if any dangerous things from my parent and he call me in the night. My parent home very far from my home.

It is good that you keep it in silent to recieve urgent calls so that you can call them back. That is what exactly my husband also does. He keeps it in slient mode and doesn't have many people who disturbs his sleep. Thanks for the response.

Because we don't have a landline in our house yet? We always set our cellphones ON. Important calls me come, especially if emergency ones.. I always placed my cellphone near my sleeping area, so i can heard it when somebody calls. I don't place it near beside my pillow or anywhere in my bed because i heard cellphones emit radio active waves that could be harmful to us especially to children.

Yes, since you don't have landline you should keep your phone on incase of emergency calsl. I always keep my phone below my pillow. Yes, I also heard that it emits readiations. I need to find a way out. It seems most of the people keep their phone in the bed when they are sleeping. Thanks for the reponse.

No I don't. I usually leave my phone on during the night because I use my phone as my morning alarm clock especially when my partner has to get up at a different time than I do. It's helpful but loud and kind of annoying but it sure does wake me up.

It is good to keep the phoen on during night thinking about emergency situation. I also set my alarm in mobile phone, it will work even if it is switched off or silent. I think most of the mobile phones work like that. You can try it once and find out. Thanks for the response.

Yes, you are right when it comes to different time zones. I live in India and we have only one time throughtout the country. I keep my cell phone on for my friends who calls me during night if I am not really tired. Now a days I work for 12-13 hours a day at office and by the time I reach home, I will be very tired. Thanks for the response.

I do shut it off when I am sleeping as I really don't need to have it on. I don't get calls after a certain hour of the night anyway, and it does conserve the battery as well. Even though it has a long life battery in it, I want to preserve it as long as I can. The peopel I communicate with, talk to me during the day. I know that some people will sleep with the cell phone under their pillow, but I think that is dangerous. If I ever would leave it on while sleeping, it would be on my night stand away from my head. Have a good day, and hapy mylotting.

Thank you for sharing your views regarding the topic. I also leave my mobile phone usually under my pillow while sleeping and leave it on. I know it is dangerous. Today onwards, I have decided to keep it away. The problem is I don't have a night stand to keep it. I have to find some other option. Thanks for the advice. Happy mylotting.

Yes, you should be careful about emergency situations. If you have a land line phone at home you can keep it for emergency and keep your mobile for switched off. You can also set alarm and it works even if the phone is swithed off or slient. Thanks for the response.

No friend,i don't keep my mobile off while sleeping.Because most of my friends have activated many night offers, which their Sim operator provides them.So i think,am getting more calls and messages during night time,(mainly sms) ,while am sleeping, than day hours.I used to keep silent mode,so that you can know who all had called us or messaged us while we are sleeping, and it won't disturb our sleep also. Good discussion.

Yes, you are right. I also used to subscribe to some night offers when I was a student. A local call was 50 paise during day time, but only 10 paise during night time. Good offeer. I don't know whether those plans exists now. It is good to keep in silent mode so that you can see the missed calls in the morning and make calls if necessary. My husband does the same too. Thanks for the response.

It is usually recommended to switch off our mobile phones while we are sleeping because it saves battery and we are explosed to that much lesser levels of radiation. But i am one of the majority of people who actually doesnt listen to recommended advice. My mobile is always switched on because i know nobody would disturb my sleep unless it is an emergency. Besides i need my alarm to wake up and hence need my mobile to be switched on.

It is good that you don't have pople who wake you up in thet midnight. I also set alarm using my mobile phone, but alarms work even if the phone is on slient or switched off. I think it works like this with most of the phones. You can try it out.Radiation is another issue, but it seems nobody cares about it now a days.

I never switch off my cell phone and whenever I goto sleep, I used to keep my cell in SILENT/ VIBRATION mode so that I could call them back once I get up which ensures that My sleep doesnt get disturbed. Hence I never switch off my cellphones. If I am tensed or sad, I'd not pick up the call and even at that time, i'd keep my mobile in Silent mode and answer back once I become normal and that is my routine. Thanks for starting the discussion and have a great day ahead. Cheers"-)

Thanks for your response. It is better to keep in silent because you can see the calls and call those people back. Some phone companies give the option to leave a mesasge when the phone is busy, switched off or out of range. American phones have this by default. If the phone is not reachable, it will be automatically directed to voice messge.

No I keep my cell phone on. I sleep at night late and sometimes there are callers from my friends and relatives. During those times when I am tired I just look on the caller and send them a text message. But I seldom do it. I believe it is good to keep it open and answer all callers as much as possible.

I also think it is nice to keep the phone on and answer the calls from your friends and family. They make calls becaue they love you and they like talking to you. But, it is not possible when you are really tired. Now a days I am working at office for 12 - 13 hours and I will be really exhausted by the time I reach office. So, I won't allow anybody to share my sleeping time.

I was so happy to have that and my friend helped me to get a sim card for it. I always used to keep it on and waited for somebody to call me. Thanks for the response.

I am so happy to see your response to my discussion. Yesterday, I asked about you to your daughter. I also keep my phone near my pillow when I sleep. Alarms will work even if the phone is switched off or silent. You can also check it out. It will be useful if you are in a need to switch off the phone, but want to keep alarm. Thanks for the response.

My phone stays on all the time. I do put it on silent when I am in class or some quiet place like the doctors office but other than that it stays on. I'm always afraid someone is going to need me or something is going to happen and they will need to get in touch with me. We do not have a land line so our cell phones are our only hope!

I want to turn my cellphone off when I sleep at night since friends always call at the weirdest hours and wake me up. I get grumpy when I'm waken at the middle of the night by the vibrations of my phone. I couldn't turn it off though because it is also my alarm and it has to be on to wake me up in the morning. I tell all my friends not to call me after 11 since I'll probably be asleep but I still get calls every so often.

Somtimes my Dad makes calls to me regardless of the fact that it is night. He jsut feels to talk to me and makes calls. I am a person who usually gets continous sleep. It is very difficutl for me to get back to sleep if my sleep is broken. My husband keeps his phone in slient mode when he sleeps.

I have to admit that my cell phone is on all of the time. I don't have a land line, so it is on in case of a family or personal emergency. I also use my cell phone as my alarm. I would recommend that if you are really upset though, turning off your phone could be a positive thing.

Thanks for your response. Yes, it is good to keep your phone on if you don't have people who calls you during night and there should be a phone on to contact in case of emergency. When I feel sad, I will be so gloomy and don't feel like talking to somebody. At that time I wish to me in my own world.
