Hello mastinet. That is a nice discussion to chat on.
Yes television is being slowly and unconciously being replaced by computer and internet. As you have pointed out, some television channels have started broadcasting their serials on internet. Recently I had gone to my pc supplier and have bought a LCD monitor. While doing so I had asked him for option and what is currently emerging as a new trend. He had said that people are now buying a 32 inch LCD monitor with inbuit TV tuner card along with a wireless keyboard and mouse. So it works as a dual system. You just switch on the LCD monitor if you want to watch television and if you want to work on pc then switch of the TV mode in it. As for the wireless mouse and keyboard it is a must since we should not sit near such a big screen and if we use wirelss keyboards and mouse then we have teh flexibity and the freedom to move as long away as possible from the screen.
At that point of time I had laughed at the proposition, but now that you started a discussion about it, the same memory came rushing back.

Thanks for such a nice comment. You know that according to several internet ratings agency, more and more people are viewing television programs on internet. Some of them are bypassing broadcast television altogether to watch their favourite shows.

Oh that was news to me. Thank you for sharing it with me. I do not watch any serials on net, but download the episodes and then see them.

honestly it wont fully replace but the 2 will more do a merge , the time will soon come when all tvs are built to be used with or without a computer system (a large margin of people not using dish or cable still lives on for a few generations, my aunt just recently decided to get an lcd but still has not planned a cable or any sort of connection) such systems will cover all needs, the market is not really replacing too many things atm but is more trying to build many of the new and old technologies into single units to ensure that people attached to the older technologies can use botht the new and old (a good example would be when the wifi and wired routers turned to the combo which is now the only model sold at the walmart here, most places in this area no longer sell the single units they only sell the combo unit which is just like the tv in the first place, what you described was a merged technology not a replacement , replacement requires the old feature to fully disappear (meaning all broadcasting ceases to exist and since all high speed internet connections rely on the same systems as the cable broadcast units streaming will remain just because it can be effectively integrated, streaming will become based from streaming sites to rid of old tv streaming methods but this will basically mean the company no longer pays for system maintenence on the broadcast systems and tv service will become part of the internet packages free of charge as a marketing bribe, it will be more of an effective merge rather than a total replacement but alot of the systems will changeon how the technology is deleivered and operated.

Well I also fully agree with you. It will not happen so soon but the time will come when Television will be totally replaced by Internet and Computers. Even such a time will come when internet and computers will be replaced by Mobile sets. It will take time but will happen definitely. The changing technology had made this possible. The new technogies in mobile like 3G are making this more possible. Things are becoming more advanced with reduction in size. Features are big and size is getting small. Thanks the IC technology which had made all this possible. About 50 years back no one has thought that a mobile like thing will be there through which people living at long distances will be able to get connected.

Well, the evolution of Television is growing. but also for the Internet in the Computers. i believe that it may surpassed television but i don't think that it will replaced internet or computers. there's a lot of people still that doesn't have internet, and with poor knowledge on internet or computers, how can they turn to computers, if that computer doesn't have internet. so, for now i think TV Still has the edge.

I agree but todays youth is fully aware and knowledge of computers and internet and the people who do not have knowledge are old age and after some years all of the population will be educated with internet and computers and at that time I feel the danger of TV sets being vanished

No, I do not think that Internet and Computers will replace Television in the near future. They might take a significiant share from the TV, in the developed nations. But in places like India, where the broad band is still in its infancy, I do not think that it will be possible, for at least the next 50 years.

Hey,
Well I am not exactly sure, but I doubt that the Internet will actually replace TV completely. I just think that they will constantly have to keep upgrading the TV, because everyone is seeming to get bored of it. Make sure you have a good day, God bless and Happy Lotting!!

I think computer and internt has kind of replaced television, but still there is audience for television, but they are mostly old generation. We can also watch movies in computer and download new movies from internet. So, it reduced the demand for television where you are forced to watch what is telecasted.

oh yes I think there is quite a lot of possibility about this happening in future, as we see that each day the way we use our computer has totally changed earlier 1GB for us was a lot of space but now I doubt if our OS will be installed or no......currently the latest version of windows 7 needs about 16GB of free space......high end graphics card, TV tuner card and all these things make the computer more interactive and more media centric.......so indeed we are turning towards the times where televisons would indeed be replaced by computers......all we can do now is wait and watch !!!!
Good day !!!!

I think the next generation of youth who knows the computer well and the internet will resort to it. But currently, in our country especially, television is still very popular especially the daily programmes about telenovelas. Many homes still do not have a computer and internet connection. Watching television programmes are free but watching internet tv programmes require certain monthly fees.

I think better models of mobile phones, with wider screens, and better way of carrying them will replace both television and computers. It will give everybody a chance to enjoy their favorite programs without having to fight for remote :-). And such mobiles would also be good enough as computers, telephones, and cameras. So this would be the direction in which technology will move. But of course, this is my opinion. :-)
