Giving your children alcohol?

At what age will you or did you let your children have their first taste of alcohol?
What are the laws in your country regarding alcohol and minors?
Here in the UK it is legal for a parent to give their child alcohol in their home from the age of 5 
What do you think about that?
I think 5 is just too young, at 5 years old you cannot understand the full effects of alcohol, its just not something that children need in their lives at that age in my opinion.
