Some time ago I was reading that if you read your text book and go to bed right after and you read it in the morning before you do anything else you will retain the information much easier and you will get a good grade in the course.
Has anybody tried this or read about it as well. Plus I would like to know your study habits.

I worked at this when I went back to college after being away from studying for over 10 years. What I finally realized with myself is that I needed to actually use more of my 5 senses in my studying processes. For instance, I would read the text and then paraphrase or summarize each paragraph underlining important words or phrases to remember. Then I would study not only the text again but what my own notes showed i.e. the vocabulary jargon particularly in reference to the subject matter. Now if you read the same info on tape and play it back it also helps. Again the studies have shown that the more of the senses that are used - the deeper the "trenches of facts" become dug in the brain to then recall.

That is a really good idea. College really wants that difficult for me and now that you say it, it probably had to do with the classroom interaction I had. In college I hardly ever read my text book. No getting ready for my certification I read the chapter and maybe retain 25%. I guess I actually have to sit down and right out all the dates, rulings, regulations etc. and go over then a number of time. I never used Flashcard but I guess this time around I have too.

I have heard that too and I am sure it works fairly well. My technique is to take good notes in class even if the teacher gives their own notes. I take good notes and then I skim through them in my spare time a few times a semester and again before tests and I can retain the information pretty well that way. Also, for more complex concepts I try to explain them to someone else... if I can make someone understand the concept, it means I understand it and am on my way to memorizing it.

Good notes may sense however for me it was always a problem the taking notes, translating in my head what the teacher said and writing it down so I can read it again. Over the years my handwriting had become doctor like and at times I can't read myself what I wrote if I go back to it a few weeks later. LOL
I was asking the question because I'm studying for an exam well I'm taking an exam to get a certification so there is no class time on this one. For right now I just can't keep the info of a chapter in my head. Well I can retain about 25% of it, lot of definitions, acronyms and court cases and on the exam the question will be which court case had XYZ effect, or which court case cause the ABC. Oh well I just need to ready this 800 page book three or four times.
