Do you consider Beer as light beverage or an alcoholic Drink?

Drinking beer - quenching thirst by drinking beer.

A can of carlsberg beer (320ml) has only 5% alcohol. Do you consider this as a light beverage more like a can of shandy or an alcoholic drink? Many people drink chilled beer to quench their thirst. Drinking a can or two of beer will not send anyone to fly off their kungfu power. Not me at least as I do drink sometimes to entertain my regulars in my pub. Whipping for drinking beers just doesn't register right in my thinking. It just come to my mind when I read a sad story of a muslim model who will be canned for drinking beer. It is the top story in our local papers today. She is sentenced to six strokes of cane after pleading guilty to drinking beer at a hotel nightclub last year. She will be the first woman to be canned under the Islamic law in Malaysia, a moderate muslim majority country where the landmark case has caused a national sensation. This unprecedented canning will damage Malaysia's international standing as a progressive and moderate islamic country. I would not debate the issue here as it is more of religious issue than a legal issue as Malaysia, a multiracial country with large chinese and indian communities, has a dual track legal system and sharia courts can try muslims for religious and moral offence. This is cruel and degrading punishment. Don't you feel so?

I consider it to be both. It all depends on how it is consumed and how much of it is consumed at one time and also the result of someone getting drunk or loopy with it. It can also be used in moderation to quench a thrist.

Hey zandi~ I understand to an extent that this is what the muslims believe is against their laws and customs. But, I do believe that this particular punishment is way too extensive! I do feel that the punishment fits the crime! It is cruel and degrading and there should be some way to find some common ground, being that this woman already admitted that she did something wrong! She should at least get credit for that! She didn't try to run or lie! She is a mother and a punishment like this is totally ridiculous and beyond what we believe in!

Hello my friend zandi458 Ji, Personally I never tasted any kind of Alcohal let it be 5%. Nor I encourage such things, as I could live so long. I feel anything taken and consumed beyond bearing and tolerable conditions should restricted by an individual. Regarding canning is too bad. But if teh rules have been made by religion, nothing can be done. Recently I read in paper taht only 'fine' has been introduced after lot of hue and cry was made publically. May God bless You and have a great time.

Well, ignorance of the law excuses no man. She get the cane for going against her religious taboo.
