I have in the past. I've read for Lighthouse for the Blind and for the elderly. A way to combine volunteer work and working is to work for an organization that visits the elderly. Sometimes you do light cleaning or prepare light meals but mostly you spend time with them. The pay isn't great, but you get the added benefit of knowing you are helping another and giving them something to look forward to.
I think its wonderful that you are thinking of doing volunteer work. Keep us mylotters informed about what you decide to do and how you like it. And welcome to mylot!
If you're in the states I know another site like mylot - but it pay in spa/salon or wellness credits. I thought you might be interested because if you're thinking of volunteering then you are likely someone that likes to do things for others and many times wonderful people like you don't take time for yourself. This is a way to get pampered and not pay the money.

That was great experience which you have to treasure the memories spent with your charitable activities. It is really amazing to help and able to reach out to the needy in the society. That is really what people needs today a sense of love and caring!

When I was younger I did a lot of volunteer work. I volunteered at one of the local hospitals and I also helped to feed the homeless a couple of times a year. Then I had my children and for a time I didn't have a lot of time to volunteer. Now that my kids are a bit older, I find myself volunteering a lot again. I serve as the secretary of the school PTA at a title one school, so we are helping a lot of families that don't have a whole lot. I also volunteer with the Girl Scout troop at the school because Girl Scouts was so important to me when I was a little girl.
Whatever you decide on doing as far as volunteer work, it will be greatly appreciated.

That is a good vocation, dear..I love to do volunteering activities. I do once volunteer in Redcross in our locality as part of community services. during calamities like floods, and during wars. I help in giving food to the evacuees and in feeding little children. It is a great and rewarding feeling being able to help to lessen the burden of unfortunate people.

I volunteer using the internet. I have just had a baby so i can't really go out much. So what i do is I play freerice.com online. At the end of the day i feel that i have donated a few rice grains to the needy by playing the game. Sometimes i feel that i should be doing more. I know that when i am able , I will structure my time a bit better and get my son involved too.

I used to volunteer several years ago when I was in highschool and I did enjoy it. However, after awhile, the organization and the people that I volunteered for started some things trying to oust me from the organization and they just made our lives a lot harder. It was frustrating because I had fun but I figured it was their loss.
If you could volunteer for the right people and the right organization then you should have a better time than I did.

I do not volunteer at this time. I have in the past though and it was quite rewarding. Now, rather than volunteering as I once did, I will take my kids along with me to do good deeds for someone I know. For example, a lady I k now was in a car accident and although she was fine, she was without a car for 2 weeks. She wanted some flowers and didn't have a way to get to the store to get them, so, I went to the store myself, bought them with my own money, and took them to her. She asked me what she owed for them and my reply was, "a smile and a thanks" The smile on her face was all the payment I needed because I knew that I made someone happy that day. Another recent instance is when I took my kids to help me pull weeds for someone and when asked what we were owed, we told the person absolutely nothing. Before we could be pursueded to accept payment, we simply left.

I don't volunteer now, as I don't have the time. But I used to volunteer at our local hospital. I enjoyed it, and it was good experience that I may be able to use for future job reference.

I think volunteering is a really rewarding experience. They are making it more and more difficult to volunteer at some hospitals and other facilities though. I have a friend who recently signed up to volunteer, but they are making him pay $15 for his shirt and name tag and also get his own physical and TB test. I feel like these should be free if you are willing to donate your time and energy to their cause.
