What is the worst job or Manager you ever had?

I think just about everyone at some point in their lives has a story to tell about what was their worst job or Manager ever? Ok here is mine. Although I'm currently a successful business owner with my husband, it did not come overnight. Years ago when we were having a tough time in our economy I accepted a job in a Dollar Store. I have to say that I was so miserable working there-they had you work like a dog doing everything under the sun, customers would often treat you like crap, and the store was always messy & unclean, and you would come home soaked every day from constantly cleaning it. Another rotten job I had before, was working as an Admin person for this Property Management company. Anyway, I remember the owner smoking in his office! I am also very allergic to cigarette smoke, also the men would regularly drink hard alcohol in their office every Friday (no women allowed), the Boss was a real nitpick who would freak out if you stapled something even 1 cm to the right. I was there 2 wks then promptly quit. I thought they don't deserve to get notice. Anyway, I'm sure you all have some "colorful stories" to report back...;)

the company i was working in the capital decided to put up a branch office in the south. so i was the one, from the main office, who was send to the south, as a starter employee. the owner picked one of his friends in the south and appointed her as the manager. she never showed interest in the job and never gave such time to learn. she will use the car and the driver, whoever can drive for her. and they will end up to a gambling place, to play mahjong. she really never gave the company and his owner-friend the respect. and she even used the funds. without reaching a year, the branch office closed down its operation. she was terminated. and we all lost jobs. luckily, the owner and another friend, put up another office after shutting the branch off. i was absorbed by the new company.

I heard that they are still friends right now, but not closer than before. It's really great to have that job with the new company but I already quit for it turned to be a family affairs and I lost my voice in managing my staff. That was already ten years ago and now I am working with the government.

Hi neildc, So weird but i just typed a reply here and it got deleted? Strange...What a moron of an owner to hire to hire a deadbeat Manager like that. I mean they always say that you shouldn't hire family, or even friends at a job because of favoritism and now we see why! I'll bet the two are no longer friends? ;)Well, I am glad that you were given a new position at the new company.

Hi, Oh I guess some things never change then, with that company being once again a family affair. Your former boss clearly never learned his lesson. Ok, well good then you're no longer with them.

Actually, i had no worse job, i enjoyed all of my jobs and the people were all nice every where i worked, but if i had to pick the worse, i would have to say my job as a paper boy, the only reason i say thats the worse, is because its the lowest paying job i've ever had, and my very first job.

Yes me too. I have had plenty of wonderful jobs that don't pay well, but they weren't horrible. In high school, I was a part time math tutor. I earned some money from that. Later on, I was working in an ice cream shop. I worked for jamba juice for about a week, but I was fired because I fooled around too much, and made the smoothies slowly. The manager was nice, but I was messing around a lot, so she had a pretty good reason to fire me. I went to college, Santa Clara University, and I am a computer engineer or trying to be, like my dad. I'm temperarily working for him until I could own the business. Don't think that I'm rich or anything, my dad is a one man business, so I'll just be taking over his spot. But my jobs aren't horrible, or well, I try to make the most fun out of it.

Hey bigplay, Well then I guess you're one of the lucky few who haven't had any bad experiences on the job, lucky for you! Most people definitely have some nightmare boss or job they love to talk about.

Hey yourbetteroffasian, Oh well I guess if you fooled around at your job, not surprising they let you go. I've never tried Jamba juice, isn't that one of those smoothie type drinks? I wouldn't know because all I drink is mineral water, plain water or coffees. So, you were a math tutor in High school and now you're a Computer Engineer, so you're definitely one of those technical people, good with numbers, etc. That's good though that you never had any crappy jobs or employers. :)

The worst job I ever held was as a dietary aide and I got sexually harassed by the head cook in the nursing home. At the time I was young and naive and didn't know any better so I just up and quit my job without notice. Years later I learned that I could have pressed charges and even sued the guilty party. I never have worked as a dietary aide again because the fear of it all happening again. Most of my jobs have been in the nursing field as a CNA/ CMA and have no real complaints about that. I enjoy working with the elderly and taking care of their needs making sure they get everything they do need.

Hey miller, That's terrible that you were sexually harassed on the job. You poor thing. What's even sadder is how common that really is. I can see young people really getting the brunt of that from some sleazy employer, the employer figures the person is really young & inexperienced, really needs a job or doesn't know the law or something-no excuse!! Well, I'm glad to hear that it never happened to you again!

The worst job I ever had was selling double glazing over the phone. I was dreadful at it as I felt awful hassling people when I know how annoying the calls are! I only sold one order but luckily for me the call centre was being closed down so they weren't bothered by how we were doing. It was a summer job when I was a student and some days we all ended up going to the beach, so it didn't turn out too bad in the end....

Hey magickat, Yeah I can understand why you'd feel that way, because you just don't like having to bother people over the phone. I had a call center job like that once which I quit after a few wks. I think I was only there in the first place not just to make some extra money, but there was this really cute guy that I was trying to "get busy" with and I did in the end.
