If it's more Expensive it means Better Quality?

One person told me this, and I'm not sure if I totally agree with her. She said "the price don't lie"
I know I'm not going to get the one that so cheap, I end up using it once and then throw it in the garbage.
And many times I found the less expensive one has the same quality.
So, what mylotter think about her statement?

I definitely don't agree with your friends statement. One thing I've found over the years is that just because it's expensive doesn't mean it's automatically of better quality. I've purchased clothing from expensive stores and had the buttons fall off during the first washing, or seams pulling out. Then too I've had inexpensive items that have lasted for years and are still in great shape and don't show any wear what-so-ever. It used to be you get what you pay for, but I don't think that's always the case anymore. Plus, I have seen the exact same brand name, exact style and color, clothing at upper end stores in a discount type store (Walmart, Kmart, etc). I'm not talking stolen designs, like fake Gucci lol, knock-offs, or seconds (with something wrong with them), I mean the exact same item by the same manufacturer. The only difference I found was in the pricing. I believe in shopping for a good deal, so why pay exorbatent prices for the exact same thing?

That's so true. You can see exactly the same clothes in different shops at completely different prices.

Hi ibuemma, of course this statement is a nonsense, a retailer will sell something for as much as they think the market will bear, and a lot depends on the location of the shop and the overheads they need to pay out. A classic example would be the same identical item sold at a cheap price in a less expensive outlet than the exact same thing sold in a more expensive shop. The consumer who purchases the more expensive item is more impressed by the fancy store store than the price of the item. The exact same curry paste, not packaged differently but exactly the same, was sold at two separate outlet in the same town in the UK, in one Thai curry paste retailed at £1, in the fancy shop with it's fancy food dept it retailed at £6. Better quality indeed.

hi ibuemma shes wrong for we have in Ca a lot of shops that'sell'lightly used clothes that have been designer items'
and are now thirty to fourty percent off. they Are clean and'are the same quality as the same garments in the high priced stores, they'have just been used for a couple of days then the owner decided she didnt'like the color or the style and sold it to the thirty percent off store.these stores have dressing stalls all around the perimeters but are not fancy so they can keep the costs down and still sell these high priced dresses at bargain prices. The brands are still the same high quality as in the snobbish stores.

No, that is not true at all. Shops sell things for as much as they think people will pay. It used to be that there would be certain brand names that you knew you could trust, because they manufactured their own products, so supervised manufacture from source to sale, but that no longer applies. A lot of companies have their products made in several different countries, and this results in quality becoming hit and miss.

not all the time......
but mostly yeah..
if you go around and would look for cheaper stuff...you end up in stores that sells pirated and imitation items..
kinda exciting at first...especially if they are really good imitations.
but after a few uses... it breaks... or stops working...
most of my experiences about buying really really cheap products ends me up wasting my money...

I don't go by price when I buy something. I look at it in the store and if it's cheaper and made the same way and it looks like good quality, I buy whatever it is that I wanted or needed.
Alot of times when you see something cheaper at a store and the same thing at another store that's priced alot higher you can look at them and compare. On occasion I have found the same product, same manufacturer but different prices on things just because of where something is purchased.
The store name and the labeling give a lot of things the price.
I shop around alot of the time.

i also do not believe that if one product is more expensive than the other one means it is better of quality than the less expensive. what i experience at home tells it is really untrue. there maybe some. it can also depends on its usage, how frequently you use that certain thing. there was even a time that we bought two units of the same appliance. one just bugged down after two days, but the other one still in good condition after two months.

There are things that you can buy expensive that stays with me longer and also the quality is better. My reason for buying other things which are expensive because I go for quality such as shoes or shirts. Since I wear them daily I wanna make sure when it gets washed many times it would still come up soft on the skin.

As far as I am concerned, generelly speaking, the more expensive a product is, the better quality it has. But sometimes, you will find price does not mean everything. Sometimes high price just has the same quality or even worse quality than the low price. So it depends. Have a nice day!

Before my hubby got laid off of work, I do alot of shopping. I brought the name brand and the off brand. There is only a few things out there that I have noticed are better when they are name brand. Clothes to me you pay for the name. You can find good quality of clothing at the lower price and not be a name brand. I like what I like and it isn't always the popular item on the market.

Certain name brand does better. I can see from their cut and material, so you really get what you paid for. But that's not all the time too. Sometimes I found an item and when I see how it cut and feel the material in my hand, my heart like, there's no way I will pay that much for that.

Yes, i believe that simply because am the one who prefer to buy cheap ones and then they get busted. unlike those expensive, they're really good quality because they have been tested already. it's better to buy expensive and last longer than buy cheap, then buy again once it become an early trash

I don't agree with this statement at all. For us, I usually go with the lower price which means that I get more for my money. Our family can't tell the difference between the bargain priced item and the name brand item. As a matter of fact, when it comes to store brand foods, a lot of thoses are typically made by the same factories that produce the name brand foods.
I've often heard people make this same kind of statement and I usually just ignore them. Really, in the case of food, I say if it tastes good, then eat it. In the case of clothes, I've also figured out that the off-brands tend to hold up just as good as their more expensive counterparts, the only difference between these being the logos.
