Hi everyone, I was just wondering if anyone on here has bought and used the Baby Can Read stuff that's on tv. My son's turning 1 saturday and if it is something that works I would like to know as he's a smart cookie. lol, and it would be a great investment. It's alot of money, I was wondering if I should just make my own flashcards and stuff. I'm a first-time mother so everything my son does it amazing to me. He picks up his phone puts it to his ear and says hello, he knows belly, head, nose, toes, hot, cold, fan, he walks, and says good, bad, hot, hi, bye, and yes. I think that's pretty good for 1, right?

Yes the boy is smart, and perhaps will run through Baby Can Read very fast. I am not trying to dampen your spirits, but do you need to do it now? He has to face 15 years of learning very soon. An year more of carefree childhood can be appropriate. Learning is still learning even with all the fun, a task. There is no point in sending a veteran to the play school. He will get bored because he knows what is being taught there. Anyways, you are the Boss and it is your call.

lol..I really appreciate your comment. I didn't think of it like that. Thought it would be good to give him a headstart, but I understand what you're saying. There's plenty of time. May I'll just continue with the way things are as he's learning fine anyway and save my money. Thanks for the comment.

I have not bought this program, my kids are allof school age. I did see the commercial though and I think that it is a fairly simple concept for teaching. The way it looks to me, you show a picture along with the word, say it, touch a like object, such as a cup or table, and then clap (for fun maybe, or as an indicator that they are all connected) and through repitition, the baby learns. It is using as many senses at a time as it can for teaching. The more a baby hears, and sees words, the moe likely they are to repeat them and remember them, thus teaching them to read. One thing I can't help but ownder though is if this is at all like the Baby Einstein program in which the instructions are to not allow the child to watch anything on tv except the videos and to not allow any toys that are not Baby Einstein branded.

Yea, I don't know about that and if that was the case I don't think I would want do it as I wouldn't want to take away all his toys and I would like him to have fun. You and Webern both made good points. Thank you for your response.

Hello Roxanne, nice discussion! Your son is just 1 year old and he can get to know so much things, it is good, he is a smart boy! For my suggestion, I think before you want to invest something on Baby can Read ( but I am not so sure about this stuff) , you actually start to make some flash cards for your baby. Their memories are very good and we can not under estimate them. Who knows they can start to read at age 1 and above. I have 2 babies, but they are not that smart to start to read at age 1. I would like to share a blogger to you, she post about her son reading development in her blog. She got a smart son too. Her son started to read very well before he turns age 2. Here is the blog post url : hope you will not miss it. Only simple home made flash cards and the little boy is enjoying very much! http://submerryn.blogspot.com/search/label/Reading
