Do you know who your neighbours are?

I have recently moved into new apartment and there are couple of houses in this building and the landlady of the house stays in one of the apartments.Since i pay her the rent every month, i get an opportunity to talk with her.However beyond that i dont get chance to talk with any other neigbours and sometimes no inclination as well. Well there are lotsa deterrents, for staters i donno who the neighbours might be as far as mixing up goes,maybe they are not our type, i dont wanna get into keeping up appearances with them simply 'cause i m too busy,i m not sure how interested they are in talking to me etc etc etc.
I see that these days youngsters move from place to place a lot due to variety of reasons like job switch etc, so they know that its a short term stint, therefore there is no use talkin to the neighbours cause they may not be staying in the same place for long.
Do you guys speak with your neighbours and do you think its a good idea to speak with neighbours even if you are going to stay in an apartment for short term?

Oh yes we must know our neighbors and we must be in good speaking terms with them. Of course when we just move to the place, we're still adjusting, we might be aloof in meeting them as we're thinking they might be like this or like that, As days pass of course you become closer, especially if you smiled at them and when you cook your favorite food or snacks you give them a plate, just to be being friendly. No neighbors are hard to get along with once you do the first move.
