Which lifestyle do you prefer ?

Which lifestyle do you prefer ? To have an 8-hour a day fulltime job with a fixed monthly salary or to be a freelancer with no fixed income ? I used to be a freelancer but recently I got a fulltime school job. But I am not very happy with my present situation. I think I was happier when I am just a freelancer. In being a freelancer I have more freedom and can set my own pace. There are lots of activities I want to do longer like praying and writing but now because of my fulltime job I have now very limited time for praying and writing. I am planning to forward my resignation. Maybe I will just finish my one-year contract.

I prefer being a freelancer. I think it can give me more time to do what I really love to do and I don’t need to be told what to do. I also fed up with office politics. I don’t like complicated relationship. However being a freelancer is not easy. The income is slim and sometimes you fix in one closed space, having no chance to develop relationship with others. Although now I’m trying to find a full time job due to practical reason, but my dream is to be a freelancer. I wish I can be a translator and writer one day and make reasonable money to survive.

vow, I sometimes do some translation as my parttime job. It would make me very happy not because the earnings but because the happiness of obtaining the earnings through my own effort. I would busy myself for a whole afternoon and I can go shoppping and I am very excited about it.

I have been a high school teacher for 15 years and it is certainly not everyones cup of tea... Either you love it or hate it, working in schools really is that clear cut! So I guess my answer is pretty obvious I prefer the fulltime job with a fixed salary - that's not to say that I don't do other things in my vacation time... Hey, I wouldn't be on mylot if I didn't! But at the end of the day I don't have enough savings to gamble them on freelancing so I will stick to the security of a paycheck for the moment!

Thank you MistyWood for sharing your views on this. You must really be hardworking and patient to endure teaching in a school for about fifteen years. Happy Mylotting. Hope you are having a nice time here at Mylot.

I have to agree with MistyWood...although I love being self employed-there are times when I don't make enough money to live! I would prefer that weekly check in opposition to that wonderful free time you get to write, read, pray, etc

Wow.. That is a Brave Good Idea.. I am really happy to see a positive minded person like me. Who created us routines to study. then work. work to home. home to work, etc., Its all upto us in making decisions and it is our rights to take decisions which are really great if we took safe and best decision. Friend, if u feel like u had missed your old freedom and not interested with your current work, then u can resign as soon as the contract over. Working and earning from Freelance sites depends on our talents. If i am in the case you mentioned, sure, I wont be choosing freelancer sites, if i have the 'peace of mind' with me! Glad you have time atleast to Mylot.. Happy Postings!!Have a nice time!

Ever since I started working, I have already been into an 8-hours day work with a fixed salary. But even though I was in that lifestyle, I was still able to have a part time job and to do some direct selling. It is just a matter of time management. There were instances that during night time, I am still able to do tutorials for an hour and can still play with my cousins, nephews and nieces. Also, on weekends, I always reserve my time for God, serve HIM and His people. I am a lector is our place and I even twice a day during Sundays. Life is too short. We need to live life to the fullest. Even though how busy I am with my work, I still have the time to unwind, play with my family's babies, take time to rest and most especially to serve GOD, His people and His church. It is just a matter of choice and time management.

definifely a free lancer. i like to have freedom and no schedule. i invest online on etrade and buy and sell websites. i make tons of money online effortlessly. residual income is better than passive. know there is a thought!

Hello kb, can you please send me more information on how you invest online through etrade , buying and selling websites. Is it something that just about anyone could learn how to do with minimal investments? I would love to hear more about it and please add me as friend if you don't mind. Thanks for everything, hope to hear from you. Take care, CC!

we share the same sentiments. i can't afford to get out from my recent job since it's the only job i had. i used to tell myself that im just a very lucky gal to have a stable job even if im not satisfied and happy with what im into now.it's really the pay that keeps me going. even i have a boss whom i abhor at times but i still keep my cool and composure when it comes to working habits and rush hours.

Since having my daughter I've been a stay-at-home-mum, trying to earn a few pound on the internet, and I haven't really managed it (well, not more than a few pounds anyway, lol!). I haven't got into any freelance sites, as there are always too many things to distract me here and I'd be worried about not getting the chance to finish a project. I'm still loving HubPages and will probably always write there, but that's not something to do purely as a money earner. So I'm thinking that when my daughter starts full-time school I may go back to work. I used to do a job which had a fixed monthly salary, and I could perhaps go back to it part-time, to tie in with school hours. It would mean a stable income, which would be really good right now! When I was in the job before I used to dream about doing freelance work and the freedom it would give me, but I didn't realise how difficult it would be to get into it, and I guess once you're doing it it's just not stable and must feel quite insecure. So I'm now thinking that a job with a fixed salary is probably better for me. Although one with some flexibility over hours would be the ideal. Just the opposite to what you're thinking of doing! I hope you find a solution that makes you happy, with more time to do the things you love doing.

Are you really decided to resign? If you think it will make a better life for you then go on. But I don't see why you should do that. Your full time job may give you more security. And if you can do writing and your full time job, together, without sacrificing your health, then don't resign. I have two jobs before but lost my second job due to financial crisis affecting the company I worked with for 9 years.

Its such a fun world and the dichotomy of life happens to be the spice of life. There are many people that are looking for fulltime jobs and some are looking to quit theirs. For me, I believe that temperament, disposition and environment one stays has a lot to do with ones attitute towards full time jobs. Jobs that involve lots of energy and reduces boredom as well as increased pay is alright by me. Also jobs that gives me time for other thing as well as put enough cash on my table is also good. It all boils down to personality and preferences.

I prefer free lancing to working full time. The reason is i get to be my own boss.I have invested in real estate and the moment the market perks up i'm going to sell and buy some agricultural land and do farming.I've read about a particular plant which gives good return on investment, i plan to grow such a plant and with the money i make travel to exotic locales around the world.

Life is much happier if you balance business and pleasure. I used to be the busiest working professional but I still managed to go out with friends. We'd chill in coffeeshops, go to disco bars and travel out of town. My professional aspect in itself is fun and enhancing. I would cover events, host parties, plan on succeeding affairs, and brainstorm creative ideas. I pretty much practice my sense of innovation, dynamism and optimism in my line of work.

i believe in freelancer because life means having thrill and fun and that u can't get in fulltime job. It is rather boring and monotonous to just sit on chair for 8 hours a day. Being freelancer i enjoy my life as the income can flow from anywhere like participating in discussions like this.

In all honesty I think I would prefer to be a freelancer, or to be working for myself so I would be able to make time for the special things when I wanted to do them. That and doing the same thing day and day out tends to put my mind to sleep, so having a certain level of flexibility so my mind can recharge is going useful. As of yet I haven't managed to find a way to make that work, so we shall see in the future. Another good thing about freelancing would also be coming on here, I don't think I could do much mylotting if I were working full time lol I wish you luck getting that free-lance lifestyle back when the contract is up :) Happy mylotting, Dranz

I used to do all sorts of odd jobs on my own time and I loved it. I could arrange my own schedule and often did much of my work late at night when the kids were sleeping. Unfortunately my marriage did not work out and I found myself solely responsible for the kids. I absolutely needed a job that I could count on getting a certain amount of money each week. I loved the freedom that comes with working on your own but it didn't work for us.

I think you should do what makes you happy. If you feel like this job, although stable, is taking away your happiness then by all means, go back to freelancing. However, in my opinion, before you finally turn in your resignation, I think you should start scouting out freelance jobs first, so you would not get stuck in limbo with no job at all while you transition back to freelancing. I also used to work full time in a bank. At first I enjoyed it but things gradually went downhill until, before I turned in my resignation, I was doing the work of 2-3 people because the bank decided to transfer the people in our department. I was actually quite reluctant to leave because I was not sure about letting go of the "stability" I felt with a paycheck every half-month, bonuses, and other benefits. I just started doing freelance webdesign, and at the same time helping out in our family business, and I have to say that I am so much happier now than I was while stuck it out in the bank.

In my experience, being a full time employee before but resigned as I felt it's not worth working 8 hours straight at a very low minimum income. I had shift to Sales, it's true I have control of my time, I enjoy the benefits of relaxing after working for and hour or two and earning better. I can spend other time with my family and friends. I can attend to differrent functions and occassions but after more than 20 years the company we're working was sold amd the new owner had to get young energetic workers, employees were paid and their separation fees for those who worked (which was our batch) 20 years and above got one million in our currency and those who worked less than 20 years got 500,000 and above. I learned a lesson those who are patient and loyal gets the reward. In sales okey you earn more now but no savings for you later except if you save for your self. So if I had to choose now I would prefer a full time job with a fixed monthly salary.

I've lived out both lifestyles and found I prefer not to be controlled and fixed to an 8-10 hour a day job with a fixed monthly salary but I think that is a reflection of my personality. I prefer being waithelp part time and self-employed on my own time full-time and this works out great for me and my kids and family.

Hello Cristine, How's it going? Oh sorry that you are not happy with your current situation. You mentioned that you used to be a freelancer but you don't bother to mention in what kind of work? I would love to know what kind it was. Recently I've begun writing also and I'm looking forward to writing a book some day. You have a tough decision to make but if I were you. I would most likely try to turn the full time job into a parttime one then get busy writing. At any rate it may take you some time before you will have a book completed but at least you have several options that you're able to look into. Have you signed up for A**.content yet? That is one writing site where I hear they pay pretty well at. I signed up for them some time ago but then lost my user name and password. If I should find it any time soon I would love for you to sign up underneath me. It's just something that I believe would help to bring in a little bit of extra money, whereas every little bit helps. Anyhow good luck in whatever you choose to do. I hope to hear from you. Take care and by all means please be sure to add me as a friend if you think we have something in common. I would love to be able to talk with you more about prayer, God and writing. God bless you my dear. Take care..... CC

My hope and aim is eventually to be freelance,in a creative capacity. I have a couple of health issues which mean I have to limit the hours I work and so many times I have had trouble with bosses who do not understand that if I don't say no to extra hours, after I reach my limit, I will be sick. I hate feeling like I may be perceived as lazy, which is far from the truth. I was laid off from my job when the company closed in February and I am hoping this can be my chance to work out what I really want to do. All my training is as an actor so I guess I have always been a freelancer at heart.
