Do you remember when you first felt really at home on mylot?

This came to me last night when I realised that I first started to feel like I belonged here on Tuesday. It was right after I had been taught by some fantastic members just how comments were meant to work, and ended up having random chats with said members. Until then I think I had seen mylot as a place to exchange ideas and potentially make a little extra money, but I was still cautious and ready to bolt. In fact an hour before starting those discussions I was watching the seconds go by slowly and thinking, 'hurry up dammit then I can leave and go to bed!' But now I am definitely glad I didn't leave because now I feel fully at home here, still a touch nervous, but definitely happier.
So yea, has something like that ever happened to you, and if so do you remember when it happened, and maybe even why?
And if you don't feel at home here, what do you think would have to happen to make you feel more at home?
Thanks for the responses and happy mylotting :)

I've been a member for about 5 months, and I slotted into the swing of things fairly quickly, making new friends and learning the ropes as I went along. However, I only started to feel really 'at home' about two months ago, and it was curious how it came about.
I responded to a discussion on homosexuality. Although I usually steer clear of more contentious subjects, I felt I could make a worthwhile contribution to this, as my daughter is gay and we have talked a lot about the subject and her own take on things. Basically, I was pilloried because I didn't fit in with how some people wanted the discussion to work, and my star rating went from 9 to 6 overnight - it still hasn't recovered fully, although I'm getting there. I was just about ready to leave, but I wasn't going to give in to bullies.
I posted a discussion on my problem, and the level of support I received, and the number of people who offered practical advice and made friend requests made me feel as if I really belonged here. Since then, I've familiarised myself with how things run here, so that I can help others who experience difficulties. It's easy to fit in when things are going well, but sometimes you need to come up against problems to really discover your place in the scheme of things.

Hey Sandra,
Wow what an amazing experience, it actually moved me to read the final paragraph and how everyone came together for you and gave you that support (it is those things in movies that move me to tears lol). I have to admit that I was wondering about your star rating. I mean you have said such lovely and well thought out responses on my discussions, that it seemed insane you had a 7 star rating because of it! I am really glad that you didn't give in to those bullies though I hope I don't come across too many things like that. I am quite a nervous sensitive person so don't cope well in confrontational situations! I think the main reason I have liked mylot so far is that I haven't seen many such things, save for the discussions about members marking others down for no reason and all that but I steer clear of those. What you say is right though, adversity is definitely a great character forger.
Many thanks for sharing your amazing experience, and I hope you never have to go through that again :)

So before that happened you were waiting to go to bed and now?... you can't wait to ge up and get started right?
Once you feel 'at home' here that is when it all seems so much easier. Once you start recognising usernames and avatars and have some people who recognise you too then you feelpart of something and feel that you belong here.
That happened to me about six months after I joined. Things were different here then. There were fewer users and not many dicussions helping others like there are now. It took longer to make friends and generally there was less, in my opinion, fun going on. Once I felt part of something there was no stopping me either - and look where it has got me!

Wow, it is really hard to imagine a mylot that wasn't as friendly as this one is, especially with regards to the helpful discussions you mentioned. If I hadn't had those I don't think I would have managed to get past the week! I learnt so much from the longer serving members. It must have been amazing to see things change to what they are now though, like seeing history in the making.
As for the can't wait to get up and get started thing, I am calm about that at the moment, it is the getting back to sleep when night roles around again think that is my problem. I never want to leave when I get on here and into the swing of things, it has completely ruined my sleep schedule lol
Many thanks for the response and for sharing your experience :)

Welcome to myLot and hope you will continue to feel like this and continue to want to be an active member here. I have been a member here for almost 3 yrs. now and I cannot really remember when I first really started enjoying this site, but I know it has been quite a while now. For me this is a place I have bragged about with many people and it a joy being able to come in here everyday when I can and converse with others, meet new people from all over the world while making New friends, and earning a little extra $$ as well. Personally I cannot imagine not being here, and hope myLot will continue to last as well.

Wow this site must have been so different when you first joined 3 years ago, amazing. I hope it lasts for many more years as well as it would be fantastic to imagine it still being here, that and having just started I do want the chance to grow and develop here. I have admit that after only 10 days I am starting to brag about it as well, though mostly for the atmosphere rather than the money aspect. I will probably only start to brag about that after a pay out lol!
Many thanks for the lovely response :)

It did not take me long at all to feel at home here. I got good response and still do to my discussion. It wasn't long before I started coming here with problems or issues in my real life. I feel a special bond with mylottians. It's nice!

Hey Kitty,
Wow I think you have to be the only person I have met that thinks I have something to teach them. Believe it or not most people tend to think they know things better than me (something which does rather get on my nerves lol). They only tend to imagine they can learn after they know me for a long time. I was thinking I could learn more from you, you seem like such a deep person :)
As for the star, I have been told that twice now. I gather a blue star is a rare thing to get this early on. I might just have to try and lock it away somewhere just in case anyone else notices and tries to take it from me LMAO
Many thanks for your amazing words and I look forward to finding out more about your outside life as well :)

Hey Kitty,
I am going to revert to my old way of typing for just a moment:
~ Leaves the room to get a tissue to wipe my eyes with because your words are so damn beautiful ~
Wow Kitty that was an amazing response, and you better not leave here either. You are one of the main people that made me feel like I belonged and should stick around. I have to admit that one of the highlights of mylot now is looking at your discussions and comments and responses and all that stuff. It is fantastic and I am glad you are feeling so welcome here as well and connect.
As for your experiences of the real world I am so guarded in reality against being taken advantage of that I just can't live in it. Since 2002 I have made my life on-line to avoid that (sad but overly true). I am glad that mylot has shown you that humanity is much nicer than it first appears, on-line did that for me as well. Strange how all the good people seem to end up on-line isn't it? lol :)
Thank you for everything and for this fantastic response as well, it really was moving to read :D

Your English is fantastic. I have often thought about trying to learn another language, but I have never been able to get past 'hello' so I am always in awe of the people who can speak English this well as their second language.
I am glad to hear that you are enjoying mylot so far, and I hope you will continue to feel this way for many more years to come :)
Thanks for the response,

Yes, I did and that was last year, this is a place of exchanging ideas and views. something that i haven't really experience doing outside or in the other social networking sites. I like this site, it's not just a home, but it's a community where people around the world can talked and have a nice chat.

Yeah i do..it was when I met true frineds on myLot whom I keep in touch on a regular basis now.
Most of the people I meet are only those I come accross on discussion boards. But I happened to connect with a few people whom I have common grounds with.
We share the same interests, and I find it easy to like them and be close with them
