I have some bad habbits. When viewing a sporting event I like to take pictures and often lose tract of the game and have difficulty telling you what happened. My family would say I was addicted to taking pictures as I always have my camera with me and will take pictures of different events. I tell them I enjoy it.

I think that addiciton is too strong a word and by using it people feel helpless and controlled by the supposed addiction.
A better term is "bad habit". Habits are learned behaviors that become automatic and can be compulsive through repetative use. But, with concentration and practice one can break bad habits. Simply make yourself conscious of the bad habit and work on thinking before you do it each time. In time (often a short time) you will be able to break the habit.
Religion can play a role in this. Both the Catholic and Anglican churches observe the season of Advent in the weeks before Christmas and many Christians observe Lent in the weeks before Easter. Other religions have similar observances during other seasons. These special seasons are a good time for reflection and focusing on changing aspects of our lives, especially bad habits, that we do not like.
Good discussion topic.
