I passed my dribing test some 19 odd years ago now and I can tell you that my first car was a maroon coloured Ford Escort Mk2. It was second hand and didn't have gromets in the front so when it used to rain it used to get wet inside and make the car stink but I loved my car because it was mine. I have no clue why I never bought some new gromets though, anyway, I have owned various cars over the years but am about to embark on the purchase of a brand new car. I am very excited but also a bit aprehensive due to the monthly repayments.
Can you remember what the first car was that you owned?

Hi there Humbug!
I am so lucky that I need not to buy a car to have one. My father have several cars and he gave me his old one that is still in very good condition! My car is a Mitsubishi model and it is colored cream. I have used for 5 years and I did gave me exceptional service hehe. I use it going to work and it's such an ease when you have a car to go to places at long distances.
But like any other cars, after several years it is becoming a problem already. A problem will start to occur on one part of the engine then after having it fixed another one begin. It's has been like that for almost a year and practically I have replaced every part of it except for the engine and the body. It is becoming a financial burden to me so I decided to sell it to someone whom I know is willing enough to spend big cash to have it entirely fixed.
Good thing my cousin wanted my car so I sold it to her. Up to know the she said it is still running ok though at times problems still occur. She changed it's color though to white pearl. Really looks nice!
Ciao!

Hehehe well she has a very good mechanic and he was my former mechanic. The car's engine is what's great about my car he said. The minor parts is just what needs getting fixed every now and then.
The car has way passed its retiring years. It has even celebrated its debut. Can you imagine how old the car is but with great care, it can still run perfectly!

My first car was a canary yellow, left hand drive Renault 5 Humbug. I bought it in Germany when I lived there - I also took my test there. The first winter it was so cold that the car froze to the car park! I brought it back to the UK with me and eventually sold it to a back street garage in Peckham (where De Boy hailed from) for £222! I ran all the way to the bank with the cheque as I thought that guy was very dodgy. Six months later I got a parking ticket for it from Wallington in Surrey - somewhere I have never been before or since. He had not sent off the log book and I had let him send off (or not send off) the seller's bit and so I was still the registered keeper! Fortunately a friend's wife worked in the Metropolitan Police's Parking Control Office and told me how to appeal successfully. She was right too. I got let off.

I was about 26 years old when I got my first car. I didn't even get my driver's license till I was 30 years old. I didn't need to before then because I had a husband that drove me everywhere I wanted or needed to go. Till I was around 26 years old, like I said, and then we split up and I needed to get a car to take myself where I wanted and needed to go.
So I bought a car off of my mom, she was getting a new one, and it was a 1978 Ford Pinto Hatchback. A lady's car, another words a lemon car for someone so young at 26. But I bought it because it was really cheap since it was my mom selling it to me. I think I paid something like $300 for it. Anyways I drove it for 4 years without a license. Why? Because I was young and stupid. I was lucky I never got caught or got into an accident.

Hey there, hi there, ho there, how have you been?
Well my first car was a Ford LTD. It worked pretty well at first but we kept having this problem with the alternator not being powerful enough to keep the battery charged, so it kept dying on my at awkward times.

My second car did that a lot too, not the alternator, some other part. $400 every 3 to 6 months after about the first year that we had it. Yech. After that, no more Fords for us!!!

I was in my 20s and working before I got my driver's license, so I had some money that I could use towards getting a car of my own. My first car was a 1972 brown Mercury Comet. It was second hand and was a cute little starter car. To give you some indication how long ago that was, I could fill my gas tank for $4.00 when I was near empty.

Oh my. My first car, and only car to this day (granted i've only had it for like a year) is my grandpa's old '96 Honda Civic DX Hatchback. I loved my grandpa with all my heart, but last year he passed away, and my grandma decided to give the car to me. It only had 25,000 miles on it and was absolutely mint. 5-speed manual with a 1.9L made for crazy sick mileage, but it is still hella fun to drive. I love driving it too cause it always reminds me of my grandpa.

Well helloooooooooooooooo dear friend, so wonderful to see you back, I know you've been busy due to the Summer holidays etc, so it's especially great to see you again, missed you. Sending you a Wolfie hug, ok well you know me, I am going to have to wrap your knuckles again dear friend, what's a dribing test? It sounds fascinating, I've passed my driving test but a dribing one, sorry couldn't resist! My first car believe it or not was a red mini Mayfair, yes I am tall 6foot 2 of me. It was actually an impulse buy at the time, I saw her in the garage and fell in love with her, called her Rosie and had her for a year, she was an automatic, I passed in a manual but I just prefer automatics, especially in traffic and I hate fiddling around with the clutch! Anyhow I used to wash it nearly every Sunday I was so proud of it and suddenly my social life increased! This was when I was 19, many eons ago like. Well I sold her in the end because she was old and started to let me down and it kind of put me off driving, it was like a tank to drive believe it or not. It was a long time after that I ever considered driving again. My dad always said it was the wrong car to get for my first car.

Hellooooooooooooooooooooo wolfie34 my good friend. I too have missed you!! Your wolfie hug is gratefully recieved. I know I spelt driving wrong but had already hit the submit button before I was able to change it, bummer!! I wouldn't have said that a mini was the wrong car to have for a first car! I think any secondhand car is suitable for a first car don't you? I love mini's, I used to have a mini City but like yours, it started to let me down and was told it would cost more than it was worth to get it through the MoT LOL
Thanks, as always, for your response hun and I look forward to getting into some of your discussions soon X

Mine was a 1982 Ford F150 truck. My dad bought it for $50 and fixed all the stuff that was really wrong with it, I paid for the parts. All in all it was probably about $500 by the time I was able to drive it. It was so ugly, brown and a rusty orange color and it was falling apart, the pick up box was rusted right through in some places! In the mornings I would have to let it idle with a brick on the gas peddle for about 10 minutes just so it wouldn't stall as soon as I took my foot off the gas. My mom used to call it 'Beauty's Beast'. It was ugly and barely road worthy but it was mine and that was all that mattered!
