Is It Okay To Listen To Innapropriate Songs While Being Christian?

I really love music, especially pop. Most of the pop music I listen to are artists like Lady GaGa, Britney Spears, and people like that. But they all sing about sinful things. I am Christian, and I want to obey God, but those songs are so catchy, I just can't get them out of my head! Those songs don't affect me in any sinful way; but is it still bad to listen to that kind of music while being Christian?

If you like that kind of music then why don't you listen to them. You aren't hurting anybody if you're listening to music that you enjoy litsening to and in fact you are probably pleasing your brain by listening to the sounds that it likes to hear. Music is a very therapeutic tool that we should all use and we shouldn't let anything restrict what we want to listen to at the current time. The more music you listen to the more you will think differently i believe because each song is like an experience or emotion in life.

Hey again ic3... I found that passage... look in 1 Corinthians 8:9...Be careful, however, that the exercise of your freedom does not become a stumbling block for the weak (10)For if anyone with a weak conscience sees you who have this knowledge eating in an idol's temple, won't he be emboldened to eat what has been sacrificed to idols?...going to verse 13... therefore, if what I eat causes my brother to fall into sin, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause him to fall... :) Dive Deep!

It is written in one of the epistles "In everything you do do it all for the glory of God." Think first if God is glorified in your life while listening to those music you mentioned. In being christian we have freedom in choosing to listen the kind of music we want to enjoy, but we should consider those things that will bring God the glory the most. I hope I was able to shed some light on this.

I've actually not read much of the Bible but I have at least read the gospels. I might not be right about this but I think that what is most important is the good in a persons heart and the way he/she treats others - not just family and friends but people you encounter in life.

hey there ic3pr1nc3ss... here's my take, and I'm pretty sure it's straight from the Bible, although I'm ashamed to tell you I wouldn't know where to find it. I too, am a Christian, rooted in my faith and immovable by anything the devil may throw at me...I am steadfast in my faith. I also happen to be a music lover. Thankfully, God put the love of music in my heart, and a talent to write some myself. There are a few bands out there that I listen to that have obvious non-Christian messages to them. First of all, don't take all of this from a religious perspective...I hate religion so I'm not trying to appeal to any religious rules or anything...if I lived in Jesus' time, I'm pretty sure the Pharisees would hate me for being a rebel. But I love my God with all my heart. Love your music. If it's not causing you to be moved in your relationship, you go on and enjoy it. HOWEVER, if it becomes a stumbling block for another Christian, straighten it out with them before you continue to listen to it. If they choose to be in judgement of you, explain yourself, and let them know where you stand. If they choose to be in judgement after that, let it be on their own heads. "Judge not, lest you be judged" It is no Christian's place to judge another, but sadly, there are those out there who think it is their place... Enjoy life...live for Him... Dive Deep!
