To have a good thread, have a nice & simple subject along with a good topic. People here may not be experts in many fields so the best way to get good response for your discussion is to start a people friendly discussion. Now people friendly discussion means, those topics which are easily understandably by people across the world & those topic which can be answered by a majority. I've seen people coming up with some amazing topics which are only good for those who know about web design or those for only a particular region & hence get no or very few responses. Do keep a followup for every response & keep the discussion active. Also rate people for their response.
