Yes. It is harmful.
A systematic approach is essential to get rid of the excess fat. A sudden fasting will liquidate the fat deposition and the metabolism is affected. The best way to get rid of fat is to drastically cut down the food intake. When there is no enough energy available for the body from the food you eat, the deposited fat is utilized to derive energy. This reduces excess fat in the body besides maitaining the metabolic eqilibrium.
I hope my understanding has some logic and is true. Can anybody pls advise?

It is never, NEVER, NEVER o.k. to starve yourself. Starving does not help you lose fat, it only helps you lose water, and then the body turns on itself to provide needed energy and you lose muscle. Starving puts your body into a state of UNWELLNESS, so if you do lose any kind of weight, you have to eat to regain strength and health and then the body turns most of that into fat just incase you ever starve again. Believe me, it's a losing battle but all you lose is your good health!!

I dont think its acceptable to starve yourself under any circumstance.. If someone is overweight and they want to loose weight, then (easier said then done i know) they need to eat better foods, in smaller portions, and drink a lot of water as long as burn calories.. Even walking to start is very good for you. If you are moving, your burning calories..

It is definitely NOT OK, starving yourself would be the biggest mistake you'd ever make. Your body for one thing will go into starvation mode, slowing down (or further slowing down) your metabolism, making you burn calories even slower. The best way is to get a sensible and healthy diet and exercise!

Yes! it is harmful. Starve? Absolutely not! Dieting does not mean not eating food. It means eating sensibly. If someone is fat it is either because of some disorder or it is because they have eaten certain kinds of food and have not used the energy. That energy gets stored as fat.
Whether or not someone is fat, body need essential nutrients. Starvation deprives these nutrients adding malnutrition to the existing problem of fat. The overall health is bound to go down.
