Why do our earnings sometimes increase by small amounts during the day?

I have been randomly watching my earnings do this over the last few days. They went up by an extra cent after the big pay day yesterday, and then over the course of the morning when I was on mylot today they went up by another 4 cents. Now I know that we have one big pay day, but I didn't know that it could sometimes randomly go up at other times, especially since I don't yet have any referrals or do tasks. So does this happen because there is something that occurs on mylot during the day that can effect our earnings? Like the moderators reading discussions and thinking you should have an extra cent or something?
But what I want to know is: has this happened to anyone else before, and do you know what it means?
I know it is only a tiny amount, and I don't normally watch my earnings, but it was interesting to see it happen and I am just curious as to why it did.
Thanks for your help :)

Hello my friend
Maybe Mike or one of the other long timers will help us out with this, this has happened to me once, when I signed on I saw my pay went up but thought it should have been a little more then all of a sudden the pay for the day came in I was cool lol don't have a clue why that happened just glad it did I am pretty sure Mike or tdemex will know why this happens, or one of the other old timers.
Like I said only one time for me but they can do this again if they like, this was the same day I lost my 10 now that I think of it, do you think that was their was of making me feel better? lol
Great question my friend smoochess

Hi Kitty,
Oh no I hope you aren't saying I should watch my star now in case they nick it, I would like to be paid more than 5 cents for it lol
Then again a topic like this could be encouraging the removal of one's star but I just had to ask :(
I am glad to know that I am not the only one it happened to, with the previous responses I was wondering if I was on my own and that the earnings could only go down! I s starting to imagine that this discussion would cause the moderators to go 'wait a second, DCLehnsherr was getting pay increases. What the heck is going on?' and they would take it back again lol.
I shall look forward to perhaps snaring Mike to get an answer in the future, it will save reading the FAQ again to try and find it lol!
Thanks for the response :)

This is fully explained in the FAQs and often happens, especially towards the end of the month. It's due to the reallocation of earnings when some discussions are deleted.

Hi owlwings,
Oh I know about the decreasing of earnings (though thankfully I haven't had that yet). I was wondering why the increased, mine were doing that yesterday and I got curious, can that also happen due to the deletion of topics, it doesn't sound like it should but I will ask anyway!
Thanks for the response :)

It is explained as an adjustment to earnings when the earnings algorithm is run again. When discussions are deleted, any earnings that might have resulted are returned to the pot and redistributed by the software so if you have had no discussions (or responses to discussions) deleted, then you are quite likely to see a few cents increase for some days.
I don't know if any 'reassessment' goes on but, since we know that the discussion rating system is part of the equation (it says as much in the FAQs), it is possible that if a discussion or responses receive positive ratings some time after they are posted, this may be taken into account when the earnings software is run.
Evidence is that this happens maybe twice a month. Once towards the end of the month (in order to put the real payments in order) and, probably also about mid-month. Discussions are, of course, deleted on a daily basis and, I think, temporary adjustments made to individual earnings but the little unexplained increases that one notices seem to happen at longer intervals.

Wow Owlwings that is an amazing explanation of how this all happens, thank you tonnes for writing it. I read about the algorithm in the FAQ (it is in fact my lasting memory of the text!) but I never imagined it would work in that way as well. It is fantastic. The more I learn about how mylot works its earnings, the more I am in awe of it lol!
Many many thanks for this, I am truly grateful :)

Well, a lot of the time, it could be because when they first add up your Earnings they might only be doing your posts from the day before. Then they go in and add in your Referrals percentages if you have some, and then the earnings from the images you post in here as well. I know from time to time I have seen my earnings sometimes increase from just being here as well and have often wondered if there is something else here as well. All I can say is I never complain when I earn more during the day and it always varies what we can earn in here and that is Good thing for sure to just keep us on our toes. Wishing you the Best.

Thank you for raising this discussion because I was curious as well, I do write down each day what I earn from various sites so that I can keep a track of my earnings etc and I have noticed that my earnings have gone up a few cents on top of it changing on a daily basis, it's good to see. I also read with great interest the responses you have received and my curiousity is now satisfied.

Earnings decrease of we lose posts due to deletions.
Those earnings are then redistributed among actve users.
It's all explained here:
http://www.mylot.com/o/faq/faq6.aspx#17
Remember also that:
'All amounts are estimates and are subject to change until final payments are made.'
just as it says at the bottom of our earnings page.

Mine increased today too.
If you read the FAQS you will see why. The earnings from those deleted discussions does not go to myLot but it goes back to active users.
That is possibly what happened today.

Hi mys,
Ahh so the subject to change things means they can go up if something is judged maybe better than first thought then?
I know all about the decreasing of earnings - I read that bit of the FAQ and the topics started by other members). I was wondering about them increasing which was what was happening to mine.
Thanks for the help anyway :)

Hello, Dranz. Thanks for asking this - I was wondering about it myself. I see the cavalry have ridden to the rescue as usual! You seem to be really into the swing of things now - well done.

Hi Sandra and Mike,
Yikes, if the site improves too much more I don't think I would ever manage to leave it lol! I keep getting curious about what it was like before I appeared though, it sounds oddly fascinating!
On a personal level it was definitely the encouragement of the active long term members that has caused me to settle in and become so active here. Without them I wouldn't be able to do any of this :)
I am glad that this discussion helped you as well Sandra, it is a good feeling when that happens. A very good feeling :)
Many thanks for the responses both of you,
Dranz
