Visiting Boston / NYC soon - need advices and tips

I'm planning to visit Boston and NYC in the second half of September, so I was wondering if here's somebody who would like to meet for a coffee and a chat. I have been in the both cities 7-8 years ago, when I was a kid, but I don't know it well, so any kind of advice is welcomed. I will be visiting universities there and wouldn't mind if you give me some info on where to stay, what to eat, transportation etc. Thanks in advance and I look forward to meeting some of you there!
