Why do they do it?

Yet another British person has been caught trying to get out of Lima airport with a staggering 29KG/64lb of cocaine. She is only 18 years old and was with a young Canadian girl carrying 3.5kg/7.7lbs. Why on earth would she think that she would be able to get through customs of a country that is the second largest producers of coccaine? What was she offered that was so good she couldn't possibly turn down? They say that she faces at least 6 years in prison which I found unusual as people are normally given much heavier prison sentances or even the death penalty. Maybe it is because of her age. You can read the story in full on http://uk.news.yahoo.com/18/20090829/tuk-brit-teen-arrested-in-huge-cocaine-b-a7ad41d.html

People will go to extremes for money. It's sad that people will do what they know is wrong for the promise of money. Especially young people are lacking the wisdom that may prevent older people doing the same thing.

I do not feel sorry for her or anybody else stupid enough to tyry such a thing. If they would make an example out of some of these dealers some of the b/s might stop.

Greed, the promise of riches, desperation, the risk and rewards sometimes blind people to the cost of getting caught! And yes immaturity as well, I think youngsters think they are more risk takers as well and don't really have much rational thinking about what could go wrong, blinded by money they don't think of the consequence. I would like to say that this sends out a message to others who are thinking of doing the same to rethink, but it doesn't as this happens time and time again, and it's not just the girl who suffers is it? What about her family, friends etc? To be honest I don't really have much sympathy for these people, most know what they are doing but it's still a shame, her whole life ahead of her, and now she's got to pay the price and it's a big price to pay.

Hey there wolfie34 I totally agree with you hun!! I too don't have much sympathy it really is a stupid situation to get yourself into but I just find the whole thing so darned frustrating like you say it happens time and time again. I can't believe she was trying to smuggle so much, it was ridiculous, I really think she had no clue of the consequences and was led to believe she would sail through. She sure knows different now! Thanks hun
