For me it did. Coming from a country were English is just a secondary language, my lot helped improve my English proficiency. I became quite aware of my spelling. Improved on my vocabulary. Learned so much in grammar.
This is a good site to practice your english, because it is conversational and many of your friends are pure breed native speakers, they can help give you some practical understanding of english. at the same time you are earning.
Native speakers can benefit on their writing skills.

Hahaha.
You should learn paypal$$$$ From your numbers, how much are you earning here? hehehe
Kidding aside I have the same experience too. It has developed my typing skills.
Yes roni indeed you can put emotions to your words (as it can be seen from your discussions and responses). Which is very important and essential. it is really quite different from chatting.

i am a member for three years now and i am enjoying payouts almost every month except if i am really busy. if i am busy for a month then i will make sure i get 20 dollars for the next month so it will look like i did not miss a month. when i transfer my earnings at my eon card paypal gets 5 dollars so i just buy something from ebay on that way i enjoy my earning to the fullest. have you reached payout already?

I haven't had any payouts yet.
May i ask what is the average posting per day to at least get a payout of $10?
though this is a very out of topic question. I hope you don't mind.

Of course it does. Here in myLot you're discussing with people, most of them are native English speakers. For me, an Indonesian, which in my daily life using Indonesian to talk with other people, discussing in English is really helping. Just like you, I felt that my vocabulary is improved and the most important thing, I learned lots of new things too when I was discussing with others.

Yes I guess for many asians it has been a struggle for non-native speakers to switch to english when you are so accustomed with your language.
But the good thing, sites like this helped many of us a lot, it helped express ourselves better in english more on a daily basis.
Happy mylotting klaudine

Indeed... In my surroundings there are not many people actually talk in English. In some circumstances, of course, like in classes or in some formal occasions which would include foreigners, we would probably need English. But not in general and such places like mylot and other English-based forums are really helpful

i'm so happy to hear that. i'm trying to learn how to speak a second language but here spanish is the secondary language and its so hard for me to learn so now i'm trying to learn french for three years and maybe i can join a french website and that can help me to learn how to speak french better. once again i'm proud of you! keep doing what your doing because your english is so well spoken i would think its your native language well happy mylotting my friend...

Thank you very much justbeingtiffany
Wow, i too would love to learn those languages. Actually here in my country many of our words are spanish since we have been colonized by spain for 300 years. That means my native language has been a adulterated with spanish; in which case it helped us understand a lot of spanish words. We use to have spanish subjects in college, but they faced that out.
Just like every other language to be learned, practice and the use of it in conversations is the most effective method of learning.
Thank you justbeingtiffany.

Trying to find a French forum to help your French language is a really good idea. I think that is the best way to learn language yourself, when you think you don't need to go to a course to learn a language. Like my partner, she joined a Chinese forum just to learn more about Chinese language.
Not easy, of course, but learning from natives is always the best way to master a language, according to me.
Good luck, justbeingtiffany.

Yes,mylot has improved my English undoubtedly. It practices one's reading and writing skills to be active here on mylot. And these two comunicational skills are very important in learning English especially for people who are not native English speakers.Recently I am preparing for the new TOEFL iBT and I find that participating in discussions here is a very effective way to improve my ability to use English.
Besides communicating with people who are native speakers makes me know more about English culture which can not be learnt just by doing exercises on paper. We all know that if we want to learn a language well, you cannot just stay on the language itself, but to step on and get to know more about its culture.

I think there are many mylotters who are learning English here. We post discussions, commenting on an existing discussions and a lot more. We need to find ways to answer a particular discussion so opening the dictionary which i only do very often, now I'm kinda doing it every time If I don't understand some words. Apart from that, the way native English speakers write or construct their words helped us that there are many ways of twisting the words. It is indeed a great help for everyone.

yes it is,
I also am using built-in dictionaries on my computer (i guess same as what you are using), it is a very great tool for us.
I agree, we can learn so much from native english-speaker, and near native english-speaker.
Thank you for the response underdogy.

You are very much welcome. Sometimes i use the built in dictionary but i still open the traditional one we have, like the fact of browsing the pages hehe. I think we can also learn English from the non native English speaker because they know how they've learned it firsthand. They might give us important techniques on how they learned the easiest way possible. It good to share ideas and make English in mylot easy.

Hi there and smile.
I know mylot site helped me a lot in different ways. First of all, it help me deal with my stress. It was a stress reliever because i always share my feelings and opinions here. It really made me discuss everything.
Second, by participating in discussion i gained more knowledge from different fields. It was so good.
Third, because english is the language that is use here, i became more aware of the words that i use. I make sure that sentences are clear and people can understand it. This way it makes me learn about english more.
Fourth, i gained here. It was so nice to think that working hard in discussions can give me reward and thats is the earning that i get from this site.

Wow,
That is so good you have indeed learned and develop not only your english skills but also your confidence. People may not know how difficult it is to speak in other languages. To have confidence to write and speak in english is not that easy, as matter of fact it can be tiresome, Right?
Keep mylotting my friend and keep learning.
Thank you for the reply.

Yeah. I got a hint from one AndrewFreyne, he wrote "in" retiement, whereas I had written "after" retirement. Obviously, I was wrong. It could not have been "at" retirement. He was too polite to point it out, and well, I dont know whether he realized that I'd made that howler, but whatever. I did learn from him. Thanks to him. And DCLehnsherr, she made me realize the difference between simple thought and inspired creativity. I appreciate such honesty - but mentioned with such politeness that it didnt feel bad at all. I make plenty of typos, and kind of miss the thought sequence, none of mylotters have ever objected to them. I wish they would! At least, if I was making a mistake, I would know. :( And thanks for this topic. I hope my friends do read it and realize that I appreciate their subtle way of correcting me. :-)

"none of mylotters have ever objected to them".
That is one of the beauties of mylot, people are so understanding with our errors. i know a lot of people here are itching to correct grammars and spellings, but overlooks them in the understanding that the person may not be a native speaker. the focus of mylotters is more on the opinion rather than the language. which is very good.
Thanks vandana

Mylot has given me enough confidence in applying what I learned from school. When one is confident it automatically helped to write better and at the same breath learning from the native speakers the beautiful English words. Getting good responses is my yardstick to see how far am understood and from time to time pick new vocabularies from the native speakers to be injected to our discussions. Learning new words daily here add up to our bank of words. We will one day master this language and can be as good if not better than the native speakers. I noticed that some of the native speakers used many slang words in their posts which not only is improper but confuse many members whose command of this language is still weak.

Hmmm that is something interesting, I guess we just all need each other (native speakers and non-native speakers). We all could learn from each other.
I agree with you on this, "When one is confident it automatically helped to write better". It would be a second nature for the most part.
Nice to hear from you zandi.

Hello,
Well Mylot didn't really improve my English, it more improved my typing speed, and now I can type a good 75-80 words per minute. I can sometimes even reach 90 words per minute, but that is only on rare occasions. Make sure you have a good day, God bless and Happy Lotting!!

I'm a new user of myLot,so I'm not sure whether it will help.In my country,English is not first language, and not a secondary language either,so I feel it a little hard for me to think and type in English.Sometimes I have to look up through a dictionary.I don't know whether my spellings are right,or whether I made any grammar mistakes. Can you give me some advice to improve my English?I feel that I've learned nothing since I graduated from high school.I just keep on sleeping on what I've accquired.Without progress in English for a long time.I really want to make friends with native speakers.

These are some struggles of non-native speakers acesand8s, switching from your language to a second language (like English) is not that easy at times. Grammatically English and most of Asian language do not have the same grammatical construction (like subject-verb-predicate). and many of us has to learn two to three languages.
Like me a filipino, we have like 66 different languages in the whole country and each one don't understand each other, so we have to have our own national language (which all of us needs to learn). From where i came from we have our own vernacular. And the place of my dad have their own (in which i also need to learn).
In many Asian countries same predicament goes.
Mylot really helped us express better in English, you guys have helped us in many ways. You (native speakers) have a great responsibility because many are looking at your English not just colloquial but that which is proper.
Thank you acesand8s
