Does Reputation matters?

Will you care about your reputation while responding to a discussion or while giving a comment because if you give a negative or rather unimpressive response or comment, your reputation is more likely to go down.
So do you really think about your reputation stars before giving an honest response? or do you care about your reputation & play safe in giving responses?

I really do not care what people think of my reputation. Either here or in the real world. Basically, I am a heartless b****** who loves the sound of his own voice (or so I have been told). Ironically, based on my rating star, it does not seem to matter here. It always surprises me that my star is so high. In fact, the people with low stars seem to be spam artists, or just generally mean people who purposely annoy people. Truth telling does not seem that big of a crime here in comparsion.

Even I thought the same that you should give an honest response, until I saw my rating going down because some people won't accept things against their point of view. Some thinks that they are right in their own Point of view & even though it's a discussion, one should not go so hard against their view or else its a minus for you..
But still at many occasions, I prefer to be honest to my mind

Well, there is also the factor of what type of discussion you are responding to. For instance, I very seldom respond to political and religious discussions here. There is never any winners; no matter what you say someone is going to hate you for saying it. Plus, there is the little fact that I have discovered most people do not know the first thing about economics and political theory (what sounds like a good idea to them would seldom actually work). If I am going to talk politics or religion, I want to do it someplace where people actually know what they are talking about. And that sure it not here (most of the people who talk about politics here do it to annoy others). This is my opinion; I could be wrong.

"if you gave a negative or rather unimpressive resoponse or comment, your reputation is more likely to go down?"
Is it true?
Then what makes your reputation go down? The button about "rate this discussion negative"?If there's someone will do nothing to your response or comment, you reputation still go down?I guess that won't be happened.I always post much as possible as I can and never think about reputation what you are thinking about

There is no Doubt that your reputation will go down if you get a negative rating!. Similarly your reputation will go up if you get a positive rating.

Hi taztheone,
I never thought about reputation before giving my responses. This is a discussion and it is normal to have a different school of thought in some topics. It is more interesting to have some different view on subjects then have everyone with the same view.
Usually people here didn't give a - rate just because you have a different view on that topics. Unless you do spamming, every posts should have a + rate rating. That is his/her personal view.

Even I always see that I give a positive rating to people because why to give a negative & hurt their reputation & earnings. If I really don't like the response or comment, I would rather not rate them rather than giving negative or positive

The only time I give the - rate to someone is when he/she give "I don't know" or something like that in his/her response. I give some peek to his previous responses and find out that most of his/her responses are one word responses like yes, no, ok. I think he/she deserve the - rate.
Except for that one, I always give a + rate for every posts.

I never really thought about it before, till I saw star in everyone's name and you -if im not mistaken- mentioned it in different post. But I still didnt care much about whether or not my comment will be ranked negative or not. I do want to get good reputation. But when it comes to commenting, I just comment the way I want to comment. Btw, i never really use the + and - sign in comment. Do we suppose to do it?

Yeah ... we suppose to used it to rate the post. If the post is good then give a + rate. Most mylotter didn't use or very very rarely use - rate unless for the spammer. Your star rate effect your earning because it is in the earning equation. So you will earn more from your posts if your star rating higher.

I just found this sight today and I have only started one discussion and have only replied to a few. But so far, I have given my honest opinion. If you think about it, what kind of discussion would it be if you only said what other people wanted to hear. I feel that as long as you are not rude and cocky about something that you can state your opinion about anything. That's what this is for, right? To find out how other people feel about a situation. If I came across a discussion that I feel might upset some people I would probably not respond to it at all. That would be the polite thing to do in my opinion.

ive never even noticed my reputation. so it truly doesnt matter to me in the slightest. it goes up it goes down, doesnt change the rate of pay as far as i know.
i always try to give a response that is in accord with the discussions topic, im not mean, i may joke but its always in light-hearted good humor.
i would like to think my reputation is good lol! but ill post what i post regardless.

whoa! i never noticed that before, has the rating system always been attached to the earnings?
sheesh...they SAY that others cant hurt your ratings (and therefore earnings) by giving negative ratings, but i wonder just how well that works...
thanks for telling me about that!
@taztheone (1721)

Oh ya, the rating system is attached to earnings. A person with lower rating will earn less compared to a person with higher rating. Now a person can't damage your reputation intentionally because there will be a tract of ratings with admin & if a person is keep on rating you -ve for all your discussions, he/she will go under trust, that means their ratings will no longer be counted. Hence no one can Intentionally damage your ratings everywhere, but yes to a limit, depending on your actions, they can.
Happy Lotting

When I response to any discussions, I am not influenced by the fear of my reputation going down. This will defeat the whole purpose of putting my views in perspective. I would response without fear and what ever ratings the posters rate ne is beyond my control. I cannot be yessing all the time as it will go against my conscience.

Well said rahul. The more I bother about my rating the more I become depressed when it fluctuates like the stock market. So I just close one eye and let go the thoughts of reaching to the top. Discretion is always the better part of valour. The system here is defective as many very much senior and having big numbers besides their names are still lagging far behind. Those who just come out of their cocoons are being awarded the highest star here. Where is the fairness? I would say long serving mylotter should be recognized for their loyalty and should no longer be subject to reputation or ratings. They should have gained immunity from being volleyed by this rating system.

Hi dear Zandi,
I am a big fan of you for this main reason. Its really stupid yessing all the time for all users just for the fact they will be happy with our comment.
Its plain stupid and sure mylot will not develop by the "Yes sayers"
When i came newly in mylot, i could see this is in some sections. It doesnt make me any sense at all. When i interfered with my disagreeing comment in a polite way, i received back a harsh comment from that user, which indirectly mean to be "you dont know nothing. be quiet. what i am telling is right". I could see that he just buried many truths in his arguing comments. I was little furious with his mannerism and replied back again explaining from a to z factors to prove i am right.
why to fear for those rude users?
who are they?
just another mylot user.
Especially, I thought this way. When one guy is standing strong for a wrong view, why cant we stand strong for a good view? This is my question inside my own mind when i cross those types of discussions filled with yes sayers.
I am always strong with my these principles.
If one is talking wrong, sure i would interfere and say my opinions and facts.
If he is rude, i never mind. I will make him defeat til the end when he has no points to argue with me(how he will have points to argue when he is speaking lies)
Later one day, my stars went to 7. I worried only on that day. Then i thought never ever i should not mind my reputation.
There is no history that a society developed with 'yes sayers'
I believe that I can contribute my best level to mylot by with my comments straight from the heart.
I am same till now and I will be the same forever too.. Just like you dear, Zandi!
Have a great time!

And Taz, for you..
I had never marked a minus for anyone who argued with their disagreements saying no to my comments. I even marked plus sometimes for their healthy debating and commenting with respect. Great gentle guys are there in another side too. I greatly admire them.
For me, Reputation really matters too. But I know very well. many guys herein mylot dont deserve the actual rating here. some are overrated. some are underrated. Because of this fact, I never mind the reputation.
I will mind only when mylot takes under his control.
Happy Postings!
Have a nice time!

I think i do care the reputation I got on mylot website. I care my reputation no matter on line world or in my real life. In fact on line world is already a part to my real life.
Because i care my reputation here so I always choose the topics carefully and answer them honestly. I also think it's a good habit. It will develop in my real life.
Here i think good reputation is very important in life. Some people who have bad reputation feel very difficult to miggle with crowds.

Yes, I do care about my reputation. It really get hurts when people give you a bad comment which you really don't deserve it. I believe if you don't want to answer or if you don't know the answer simply don't indulge in an act giving your bad repo. I think good reputation matters not only in here but in real world too. It gives self confidence and self respect and also positive energy in whatever you do.

But sometimes I found it's hard to be polite and express my real feelings in one topic, so when I absolutely disagree and angry with the discussion starter, I prefer not to answer than not polite and start argument..

Hi. In general i do care about my reputation in this site. But i always give my honest opinion and i do not play safe at all. Regarding this colorful stars..i do not really know about this and this + - ! i do not know either. I was about to ask really but i got so busy that i forgot all about it this days.
And also i only respond to discussions that i feel i can give good answers and those discussions that i feel i know about.
I dont give negative answer to any discussions for only one good reason...negative response will do us no good. Im here to make friends and i want to learn how other peoples brain work in other parts of the world. Im feeding myself good information and good ideas on this site. And im having so much fun so far.

Hello Taz,
This is a very good point that you've brought to light, I really hadn't thought of it in these terms before. In the past I've always given mostly all honest opinions. I wasn't thinking about my reputation. So I guess that would explain why my star had gone down from red to yellow. But then again I'm not too worried about it. I feel that there is someone out that will like the way I respond. So hopefully I will begin to gain more of those kind of mylotters, the mylotters that care more about honest feedback over reputation. Thanks for posting. take care and have a great day.

I personally never really care about reputation on mylot. Honestly i don't really understand how to growing my reputation here and what is the purpose of that reputation. So far i only do mylotting as usual. I'm responding and responding as many as discussions i can when i have free time. I know that currently i have a not bad reputation in mylot which comes from my efforts here. But i think it won't help me to increase my earnings here. But if i'm wrong, please correct me. I'm only a regular mylotter. I do mylotting as my new hobby and i will responding as many as discussions which i found there's interesting topic. Sometimes i found a repeated discussion, eventhough it was posted by different people, but the core of topic were same. And i won't respond to such discussion because i think it's not an interesting topic. So, although i'm a regular mylotter, it doesn't mean i will just post a short sentence for earning money. I want to do my best here, not only earning money. For me, now, earning money is just a bonus from mylot for what we have done to this site. Good luck and have a nice day. Happy mylotting.

That's what I like about tasks. Sharon might send mine back with an "American English PLEASE" note on it, but she can't downrate it and offer me only, say, $1.45 for being a plonker. I know exactly what I'm earning with tasks.

hey taz, to be really honest i have to say i care about my reputation but that doesn't mean i always go where other people are going, i do give my original opinions but you see you must have a way of expressing yourself, a way in which you could let your opinions out and which doesn't offend the discussion starter in any way, i have posted some in the religion section as well, although very less but still it's hasn't really come down, if you are able to let out yourself out in a simple and easy way, people won't rate you a '-' anywhere and you will also be able to let your heart out, try it and you will like it.... have a nice day taz!

Reputation doesn't really matters much. It does not create so much of good impression on users if one's reputation is high, but it creates a bad impression on users if One has a low reputation. So, you should give honest but polite and positive responses, and do not rate anybody's discussion negatively if you are not sure about it.
