How long could friendship made in a travel last?

In a travel, we may make friends with others. But how long can that kind of friendship last? Once upon a time, I took a tour to a famous mountain. During climbing the peak, Bob, Peter and I became very intimate friends. We helped each other and enjoyed the kindness of one another. Especially when it began a storm, we shared the only one umbrella with us and were lucky to survive together.
After the travel, we keep contact to maintain the friendship for 2 years. But at last christmas, it ended finally. I asked them to take part in my party. Bob was busy writing his paper and Peter had to help his family. Later for whatever short messages I sent them, they no longer replied. What a pity!
So what is your experience about friends made in a travel? How long could that kind of friendship last?

I guess it's the same thing with holiday romances, friendships last and are strong when you are together and are doing things together, but when you go home you start to drift apart because there is no real solid connection, especially if you live so far apart from each other. At first you are both keen to write or respond, then as time goes by, you tend to drift apart, things happens, things change and you lose connection, at first weeks drift by then months and before you know it the friendship has evaporated. It is a great shame and you should treasure the good times you had together and the friendship you had.

I believe most people who meet on holiday keep in touch for a short time only. I think two years is a long time. I'm sure you have an abundance of friends, and maybe you will run into one or both of these down the track. Good luck.

In my experience I have never really had a travel friendship last very long. I would have to say that you are a lucky person to have had that friendship even if it didn't last that long. I think people are brought into our lives for a reason.
