How Often Do You Clean Your Mouse?

My mouse gets so dirty after about a month. I'm a big hand washer so don't understand how this happens. I haven't taken the ball out underneath the mouse since it doesn't seem to get dusty or dirty. Bought some hand wipes from Walmart, the cheaper ones, and they work just great on the top and sides of the mouse. How often do you have to clean the top portion of your mouse?

I use optical mouse. I find they work on a variety of surfaces and rarely need cleaning. Every once in a while I blow the dust out of where the light and the optical sensor is, that is usually all that is required. I used to clean my regular mouse when it became erratic and usually found it was more a buildup of lint on the rollers rather than dirt on the ball. So I used to clean the lint off the rollers and wash the ball as it can also accumulate grease from your hand phone needs to be washed in a detergent.

I go through mouses every few months for some reason. I can usually buy one cheap at the GoodWill store if it looks generally unused. I try to grap the optical mouses when I see them. I think I get the cords breaking inside, usually at a stress point where it come out of the mouse. Another problem I have is those little thin hard plastic ovals or circles that the mouse rides on, they always come off and I find them scattered somewhere or I just lose them. I have tried to stick them back on with little success.

Everything about the computer;from external drives, modems and printer gets dirty. So does the mouse. I clean all the computer peripherals every two weeks. Cleaning the key-board takes a longer time. I need to use a toothbrush, toothpicks and cotton buds to do a good job at that. All the rest, I just clean them with a moistened cloth.

:-) Every new keyboard comes in a cardboard box and inside a plastic bag. Use some adesive tape and tight that bag and use kkeyboard "covered". Is FAAAAAR easyer to clean and trust me, it takes max 15 mins to get used how to press keys .. And when the plastic become "bad", simply replace it with another one ...

Mouse balls tend to get dirty once in a while. I suggest you buy an optical mouse. It's easier to maintain and it doesn't require regular cleaning.

My mouse is optical so it doesn't have ... um, what yours has got. I used spray cleaner on it once, and it stopped working! Now, I just clean up round it ...

I used to have a ball mouse but quickly found out that the laser mice are much better at staying clean. With the dog/cat hair, that ball had to be cleaned every other day or it wouldn't work. Now, my mouse gets cleaned whenever I no longer can stand the dirt on/in my keyboard, mouse or tower. The screen stays amazingly clean for over a month. Sooooooooooo....I guess I can say the mouse gets cleaned a few times a year. lol

I don't clean my mouse at all, even though i have a gaming mouse which is very very expensive, but it's optical so there is nothing to clean in it, It's clean all the time. But i do take care that i don't use it when my hands are dirty on anything like that.

I used to have to clean mine out at least once per month also. I now have a laser mouse and it does not have the ball. I never have to clean it out. I just have to wipe off the outside of it and that is it.

Hello carolbee. I don't clean my mouse as it is a red cap on the keyboard of the laptop, but sometimes I clean the keyboard after using it for some time together with the screen. I am very comfortable with the red cap as the mouth, so I don't use an extra one. Take care, friend.

my mouse hasn't got any "balls" ... its an optical mouse and never gets dust. my old mouse used to get dirty easily and it was a big trouble to clean it regularly.. i recommend that you also go for an optical mouse.

Hey! I really don't clean my mouse or computer all that often . Maybe once a week everything by the computer will get a good wipe down. Usually, I will use a baby wipe or a clorox wipe because they are much safer. The dust never really builds up with just once a week cleaning .

Our computer room is so dusty for some reason. Dust bunnies are all over in a short period of time. I do keep the top and sides of the mouse clean. I also like to use wipes. Thanks for responding.

That is a good question. You reminded me about clening the mouse. I usually clean it or get the help of somebody when the mouse won't work. I have the mouse with a ball on it - optical mouse??? I need to clean it by taking the ball out, otherwise it won't work. Thanks for the reminder.

I was planning to clean it, but was confused as which detergent should I use. Well I use a Laptop & hence there is no need for mouse even though I have one, There is no need to clean it as I use a softpad for it & its a laser mouse. Happy Lotting

I usually clean my mouse before and after using it. Dirt and dust came everywhere so it is safe to regularly clean it. Moist cloth is enough to clean it.

When it needs it. I too wonder how it gets so dirty but I also put on lotion while I am waiting for something to load and I think that's part of it......also it mostly gets dirty where my finger is.....it's due now for a cleaning!

I cheat and just blow on the ball to clean it out. It's faster. I hate the top part of my mouse to be dirty so I use wipes on the top. It's simple, fast and works well. Thanks for responding.

O nce I feel something dirty on it and I can see and feel it out F ollow your words, you are still using wired mouse,I suggest you can change into a wireless mouse,it become very cheaper,a shop near my home,it just cost 6-7 dollars. So throw your old one to get a new one. Then you will not clean the ball which is under mouse bottom M ouse is the most commonly used equipment,so we must choose someone which should have a good feeling of hand handle. On this hand, don't treat yourself unfairly

I will check out the wireless mouse. Sometimes the wire gets caught behind the computer monitor and makes it tough to use. Thanks for responding.

I'm using optical mouse so i don't need to clean my mouse. I think an optical computer mouse is much better than conventional computer mouse. We can use it without worrying about its ball got dirty. Optical mouse also getting cheaper nowadays so i think you should buy it one. It will save your time for cleaning your old mouse. By using optical mouse, all you have to clean is only the surface which you use the mouse on. Maybe it's your desk, or your mouse pad. Make sure to keep the surface is clean so that mouse can move without any obstacle. Good luck and have a nice day. Happy mylotting.
