Hi ...
In Bahasa Malaysia, it is called TANDAS
Anyway, the toilets sign are easily understood..
quite universal :)
Have you accidentally entered the wrong toilets?
I always go to the 1 Utama Shopping Centre..so I so used
to that the Gents will come first then the Ladies!
Subsconciuosly, I am quitte 'auto' when I am there.
But one day I used different entrance, that's means
it is from an opposite direction..Oops, I entered the
Gents...quickly came out when some guys was about to enter!
What an embarassing moments..
Have anyone of you experience this or someone else did?
Do share any jokes here pertaining to restrooms, toilets,
washroom....etc! Btw, do tell us , what you all called toilets
in your country?

We call it by many names depends where we are standing. It is commonly know as washroom, restroom, toilets, bathroom, etc....Personally I use washroom and sometimes rest room commonly. Here, in my country we didn't have any problem calling toilets also. But when I am in Malls or in any other nice place I call it restroom. Thanks..

Dear Airakumar,
I am so glad to hear from you again!
I sometimes wondering why is it called 'restrooms',
is there anyone actually rests in them?
However I do noticed that some shopping centre's
promoters, shoppers do sit on the 'sofas/ couch'
provided in the rest room. Especially those in the
hotel, their restroom are fully furnished with mirror,
cologne, lotions to freshen up, bouquet of flowers,
towels, sitting sofas with table etc.

Hi Iriene!
Here in India, if toilets signs are indicated in Hindi anguage, it would be called "Shuchalyaa" (meaning toilets) or 'Jan Suvidhayayn" (meaning Public convenience). At most of the malls, hotels and other such places both Hindi and English sign boards are used, at least in our Capital city of New Delhi, so that general public could understand.
I once visited a Ladies toilet by mistake, however, I entered the toilet after the office time was over, I was sitting late on that day in my office for some office work, therefore, there was no danger of me being seen by any woman...........LOL! I used it knowing that no woman would be in the office at that time and I came back peacefully. (Please do not laugh...........LOL!)

Dear Iriene!
I am glad to know that I could make you laugh. Yes, you are right that you tongue might have got twisted while pronuncing Hindi words.........LOL! You must practice it, if you have to visit India..............LOL!
You are right that signage with 'gents' and 'ladies' is quite universal and is common. I have also seen shoe and heel sign at some of the public places. I have noticed other sign, which is a photo of 'King' on the door of a 'gents' toilet and a photo of 'Queen' on the door of a ladies toilet.
I just cannot stop laughing after seeing the attached picture of a unique 'toilet' signage, yes I can notice what a gent is trying to do in the picture.........LOL! Thanks for uploading and sharing such a funny and hilarous picture.
BTW, what for this picture meant for, is it for a 'Ladies toilet'?
Have a great day!

Dear deepak,
There is one blog that my son stumbled upon which shared
about the toilets sign just like the 'unigue toilet'
signage that I attached. But it was the moving type like
a video - animated. It shows how the 'ladies' sign kicked
the 'gent sign' out of the toilet when he try to climb over,
jump over, sneak under the door, it is so hilarious.
You have a very good Question there? What exactly the purpose
of that 'unique toilet' sign for? I guessed, it act as a warning
to those ladies " Beware, someone might peek "...lol
All the best and take care!

running into a different restrooms.. hahhaa.. I am sure to have something to share..
and Iriene, be ready and you don't laugh till you drop from your chair and hit your butt!!
This was what happen.. I was at a pub having a drink with my friends, and was in a read desperado to enter the washroom, however it was dully occupied, and I don't know what happen to the lady that enters that... it took her more than half an hour, and she is still not out from it!
You know how it feel when you get desperado right? I peep into the gents, and it does not have any sign of human being, and being after a few drink (though I am not drunk), the bravery virus kick in.. and went in there for a quick release...
While I am done, about to walk out, there is a gentleman walked in, and my first reaction is...ooppss.. and the man keep starring at me.. not wanted to loose out, I told them man, "what you looking at, the picture outside shows wearing pants wat, isn't I am wearing one"?
and the man just feel bad, and walk out.. muahahaa..

Hi,
We call it as 'Kakkoos' in Tamil,
In English we call it as both the toilet and aswell as Restrooms. Mostly every one used the Toilets.
Entering the wrong toilets is really an embarassing one. They become a comedy. In many movies they have the jokes regaring this wrong entrance and got the slippered by the lady or chasing by the ladies..lol..
Also, there are some jokes like
'Even you eat the food in the five star hotel or the road site hotel, they all will end up in the toilet'
Sorry, if i wrote something wrong. This is a joke i know regarding the toilet..

you are really gifted ...a talent in writings and
very expressive, great job!
I like that 'toilet joke'...it make sense
'Kakkoos' in Tamil...means washroom.
In Bahasa Malaysia , kakak = elder sister
and aku = I, my, mine
so, normal conversation when we said my elder sister
will be 'kakku', sound alike...lol or 'kaku' means frozen, cramped!
I think this 'kakkoos' is easy for me to relate coz it has a
humour in it. Thanks for sharing, truly appreciate it!

In the US we call them either toilets or bathrooms. Very plain and simple. Some other names are used but they aren't nice and it's probably best I don't put it here in a discussion. I did twice enter a men's bathroom. Once by accident and once on purpose. The line at the women's bathroom was real long. The men's bathroom had one stall so I had a friend watch the door and not let anyone enter and I used the men's bathroom. The looks on the males faces was a hoot. I did accidently enter one once at a casino. It was a total mistake and I got out of there as soon as I realized it.

hello Iriene88,
Here in our country we call it comfort room. In public places, some are putting a drawing of a girl for females and drawing of a boy for males. Some also has a sign Male CR or Female CR. No, I have no experience whatsoever that I entered in a wrong room for I'm making sure before entering that it is the right CR for me.

At my place, we often say "where is the handwashing room?". It sometimes causes confusion with visitors. Usually the public facilities are not enough for ladies. Often in tours, when the men are over with the errand, a lady will stand as a guard, so that the resources are not wasted while ladies still wait in a long quee.

Hi Iriene,
In my country Indonesia, we call this special place as TOILET or WC.
I hate to go to public toilets,so smelly.
Only in Singapore shopping centre ,I can find the best toilets,no smell at alot and it always looks clean when I go in. They even provide toilet papers in every toilet.
Don't talk about the public toilet at the shopping mall at my place, have to pay 2 cents and yet it has a bad smell.
Sometimes the floor even so wet when I go in.
I don't like to go for squated type toilet bowl, very inconvenience and I am not get used to it.Since I was a kid, my house toilet is on sit type,so I am get used to it.
Luckily, I never have any bad experience pertaining to toilets. And I hope I won't never enter to the wrong toilet in my whole life.So embarrasing !!

my trip to Europe during my honeymoon in Central
Europe. We have to take the tour bus from one
country to another. Switzerland to Germany, Linstentine,
Austria, Denmark, Holland, France, England etc.
Since the journey is very long, they always has
'toilets stop' and the tour leader will say
"time to sing song" Since we will be in one country to another
the toilets name will be different too! Some is called Toilets,
Toilette, Toiletten, Washroom, Restrooms, etc. Attached here is

of washrooms too. Different countries has different
terms used to refer it...quite interesting though!
I remembered a guy by the name Tan, and he make fun
of his own name by saying...'Toilet Tan' because one
of the rest area have the restroom stated as 'Toilettan',
he really had sense of humour

Hi iriene,
Toilets they can be confusing as they put on each door a man and a woman. But sometimes the men and the women on the door both wear long clothes lol and it is so dark in those passageways you cannot find the light to switch on to see if the figure on the door is wearing a tophat.
Toilets here are called in Public "Servicios Públicos" to the ordinary person they call it "WC" or Barter (The Closet) shall not tell you what we call them in England lol don´t think you can write it here.
They usually put on the Door sometimes Señor thats for the man and Señora thats for the woman.

Hi Iriene88,Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay in Spain. Granada is a fantastic place and also Malaga. Next time you come back learn two more word of Spanish and away you go. Nice to hear from you.
Toilets in Spain are getting much more modernized than before and the Bathroom to go with it before it was well just that what you used to see a roughly setup closet sort of thing. Now toilets are more higienic, much cleaner than they used to be. So things are looking up in that aspect. You keep in touch too.

Your experience in Bohol, is really 'unusual', but when you

I still remembered my trip to China about 7 years ago. At certain
province they do not have a proper CR, most of the cubicles are
without door to close. Imagin, we ladies have to help each other
by covering the door frame (without door) with umbrella or jackets
so that we have privacy...

I guess we called it all about the same - washroom, restroom, toilet, cubicle, ladies, gents... The interesting thing I feel is that the picture representing the male or female toilets, some are not obvious and in fact ambiguous, especially for hotel rooms. I like some restrooms which are identified by colors pink for ladies and blue for gents which are more apparent in shopping malls.
