Last weekend, I just signed up for an account at Helium.com after hearing a lot about this site from fellow mylotters. I have been writing for Associated Content for over a year now and is not too happy with my earning potential there. As one of the guidelines at AC, they ask you to ensure that no other same content of articles you have posted on their site are present on the internet. So, I just wanted to know if the same also applies for Helium. Can I submit articles at Helium that are also published in some other article directories online? Would love to know from you guys. Thanks for the info!

I have joined Helium a few weeks ago, and have earned more from AC in two days. The this with Helium, you are limited to the titled articles you can submit...they provide the titles, and you have to keep rating lots of other authors before even having to start earning...but I suggest give it a go, maybe you can earn through the merchants looking for writers....I haven't gotten into that yet....

I surely will give it a shot. After all, it would be a great opportunity to hone my writing skills. I will definitely get my hands at doing some of those writing assignments at the marketplace too. I believe that is where a bulk of your earnings are going to come from, and major earnings at that!
Have a great day!

I would advise you to not sign up at Helium....they are stricter than AC...and you have to abide by some very strict guidelines. They have a low tolerance level for infractions and also plagiarism. The only good thing about Helium was the money that you eventually get. You have to rate articles, and if you want good money, you need to write as many articles as you can between the 25th of the month to the 24th of the next following month. They do have marketplace and other ways to make money but you have to be really lucky and one of the best writers to get picked by whoever the publishers are. You have to have at least 2 or more stars to even get some decent money. No stars, no money. It took me close to two years to get anything decent and that was when they changed the way they did things. They do not pay on the first of the month...you have to wait until the 10th of the month before payout and then it goes to Paypal...which usually takes three days to get to your account. I like AC and many others better. It got to be too stressful and frustrating at Helium....the money was good when I got it...but other than that...having to write within a specified time to get any amount of money was too stressful. So I would advise against joining them. You can write your own articles but you have to submit it to them before writing. They have to approve it before hand.

No, AC has high standards too..I just like them better. Helium does put them on right then after you write. I love AC....and they are just as strict, but not as much as Helium.

Hi. THanks for the input. I still could not provide a substantial comparison between both sites since I have neither published any articles on Helium yet, nor have I received payment from them. Will let you all know once I have done either one of the above mentioned.

Well, looks like scheng1 already answered your question. I'll just elaborate on it.
You choose the level of rights you grant to AC when you submit your article. There's exclusive(meaning it can only be published on AC), non-exclusive(meaning you can publish it elsewhere) and display only (meaning you can publish it elsewhere and can take it down from AC whenever you like). Only the exclusive and non-exclusive options are eligible for upfront payment, but since those are only available to US residents and I gather from your profile that you are from the Phillipines, the best option for you to choose is "Display Only" You can choose to grant AC exclusive rights if you ready want to for some reason, but you won't be getting any extra benefits out of it.
At Helium, the level of rights you grant Helium for your articles are non-exclusive, which means you can publish them elsewhere. There are exceptions, like the Marketplace articles, but generally, you still retain the rights to re-publish your articles elsewhere.

Your articles get published instantly, and they then get rated by that peer reviewing system that scheng1 has referred to as "annoying". If nobody finds anything terribly wrong with the article, like it being just made up of words that make no sense at all, then it stays up.

Thanks for the extensive information you have provided. It has certainly provided for more than the information I needed. Then I guess I am all geared up to get started with publishing articles on my Helium page.
Last question, does Helium also have the same approval system as with AC? And how many days do it take before an article is published? Thanks.

Hi Abbypringles, unless you give AC exclusive rights to the content, you can post the content in other websites.
For us as international writers, we can only opt for Display Only, which means that the content is not exclusive to AC, we can post the content elsewhere. Helium does not require exclusive rights, you can repost the same article from AC to Helium

Great! That is nice to hear. All along I have been thinking otherwise and I suggest I can begin doing this to get something up there on my Helium site. I'd try to experiment on what I can do at Helium for now and once I have more free time, then I'd probably be able to do more writing. Thanks for the info!

Hi Abbypringles, Helium does pay upfront for all writers. However, there are certain categories not eligible for upfront payments, and only the first five articles in a title is eligible for upfront payments.
Helium has a very annoying rating system, and writing star (for computing upfront payment) is based on writing score, which in turns is based on the rating system by fellow writers.
The writing score for new writer fluctuates on a daily basis, and the one little writing star blinks on and off. The best is to get in thirty articles in a month, and keep at least one writing star.

Abby,
Helium's terms of service state that they realize that you may post a piece under the same subject, on other sites. They do want unique content, or unique enough that search engines see it as unique (i.e. use synonyms, rewrite the sentences, etc.

Great. I have not looked into this site extensively yet and is still looking at my possible options. I have found that navigation is a bit difficult within the site and have also looked into the marketplace, which I believe is pretty competitive. Unique content is the way to go then!

I am not 100% sure but almost that you can not use already published material in the marketplace, although as far as I know you can post already published stuff in the writing section that has nothing to do with the marketplace.
Although they do recommend original content, and the way it's set up they give you ideas to write about then I think what they want is spur of the moment kind of stuff on the actual site.

Yes, I know of this too. The marketplace is actually very competitive and the pay is potentially high. This explains why the need for quality and unique content is vital since the rewards are quite big as well. Happy mylotting jenysie!

I have not submitted any to either of the writing sites. I have however signed up for both. I have just not buckled down to write yet. I should. I am just worried about spending time and energy on this and it doesnt get anything at all. I am no help as to your question, but am surprised to see that you are not happy with associated content. I have heard okay things so far about them.

Hi. I suggest you should start writing because you'll never know what you can get from the site unless you try your hands writing. I have submitted quite a few articles for AC but had been so far unable to bring traffic onto my page or my articles, which is the main source of earning. I have earned 10 dollars from a promo that I have joined though, but since then I have earned minimal from the site, that is why..
