Why do all states have different road signs?

While we were driving down the east coast a couple weeks ago on vacation, I noticed something more than I usually do. I have always known that the road signs vary from state to state, but this time I saw a really different one - and I think it made more sense than any other state. I'm pretty sure this was in Georgia, but one of the road signs read "Bridge may ice in winter". I have seen "Bridge freezes before road surface" in just about every other state I've been in. But I'm also normally up in the North so you would expect the roads to be icy. I just thought it was really neat that in a southern state where they don't usually get snow and ice it specifies that you might have ice in the winter.
Another sign I saw was "$1,000 throwing trash in highway". I think they left out the word "fine" in that one!

I've travelled all across Canada and most of the States and I find the road signs highly entertaining. Especially in areas where there's not a lot of traffic and I can't play the license plate game. LOL Crossing Manitoba, here in Canada there is sign after sign saying "Warning, Moose Crossing". Never saw one darn Moose until we hit the border and there was a whole family of them crossing the road at a snails pace. AND NO ROAD SIGN! ROFL

You need to teach the moose to cross at the signs!
I do love the signs warning about ice though, they need to take them down in the summer!

LOL. Next time I meet a Moose, I'll lead him down the road and make him cross at the sign! ROFL

You can lead a moose to the sign but you can't make him cross!
