Any "Rescue Me" Fans? If So, Come On, Come On!

This is another one of those shows I've gotten hooked on that's on cable as opposed to one of the broadcast networks. Unfortunately, I didn't discover it until several years after it started, I'm not really sure which season it was, but I'm definitely hooked now even though I still have to scratch my head when something happens I don't quite understand! I'm really hoping I find some fellow viewers here - come on in, Kitty! - and hopefully some of you can fill me in on some of the stuff that happened in the first couple seasons. I've got the basics...Tommy's cousin Jimmy died on 9/11 and Tommy's been having an off and on fling with his widow, Sheila. I know Tommy and Janet have two daughter and that they lost a son. I also have heard about a baby but I don't think I've ever seen him or her.
Anyway, as the theme song says, "Come on, come on" and let's discuss it!

I love Rescue Me. I've been watching the show from the beginning and I still love it and hate missing an episode. I missed an entire season though because I didn't have a TV my first semester of college but I'm OK with that.
Tommy and Janet did have another baby. Janet got pregnant with the baby after her affair with Tommy's brother (he was later killed in the line of duty; he was a police officer) but I can't remember if they ever determined if the baby was Tommy's or his brothers as they both had a bit of a thing going on at the time. Janet truly hated the baby and didn't want much to do with him so she started drinking all the time. Tommy was told by Janet to get rid of him so he almost tossed him into the river on a cold night but kept him. The baby seemed to calm down around Sheila so they gave the baby to her for awhile but Janet grew tired of her having him and doting on him so she wanted him back. Tommy and Janet's youngest daugther ended up going over to visit Sheila one day and stealing the baby back for Tommy and Janet.
Now, here's the point where I'm lost. I'm not quite sure what happened to the baby after they got him back from Sheila. I'm not sure if they gave him up for adoption or what. I think I missed an episode or two so I'm a bit lost about that. However, I haven't seen the baby in quite awhile so it's hard to tell what happened to him at this rate. That show is so crazy sometimes it's hard to tell where they've got the baby stashed.

Thank you, you've been a tremendous help! I think it may have been the first episode I ever watched when Tommy almost through the baby in the river. Now I remember him giving him to Sheila. It was a friend of mine who was always talking about the show that got me interested in watching it so I asked her about it but she never got around to telling me the whole story.
Apparently the baby's still around because there have been some references to him, such as "How's the baby", "The baby's fine". I think I might also remember Katie stealing him back from Sheila but I'm not sure. You're right, it is crazy sometimes but that might be why I like it so much...lol!
