Oh that sounds awesome! Hope you have a lot of fun!
I used to use my bicycle as transportation back before I could afford a car. It was amazing what kind of shape I was in. I could eat absolutely anything I wanted to and you couldn't even get fat to stick to me. I used to ride about 100 miles a week, sometimes more. I was never a very fast rider, but I could always get to wherever I needed to be.
Then I bought a car about 5 years ago and got totally out of shape. I've been trying to pick up my pace lately though, so now I'm up to 20 minutes where I ride at a constant 20 mph. After that I start slowing down again. If I can't maintain the higher speed for at least an hour by the time I get to the marathon, I'll just shoot for my 15 mph normal average speed so that I don't risk not finishing. Otherwise, if I can go for an hour at 20mph then I know I can go the whole time at around that speed.

Wooohooo, I wish you success to that marathon! I'm a biker myself, and enjoy mostly cross-country and downhill, but I've never compete in a marathon, even though it sounds like fun (and tiredness). I like the way you say "used to do 40 miles through the hills like it was nothing", it's a performance I'm looking forward to reach. I'll be on a trip in the near future to the mountains, 70-80 miles far from my town. It's gonna be pretty neat, especially because we'll be camping in the woods and probably hunt, fish or gather our food, some kind of survival scenarios .

Thanks! 26.2 miles, so not too bad for a bike ride. I remember when I used to do 40 miles through the hills like it was nothing. This one only has two inclines, not even hills by the standards around here. But finishing it with a good time will be the challenge, since I tend to be a bit slow (my average speed is only 15 mph).
