Vegans/Vegetarians - I have a question...

I know that there are various "levels" of vegan/vegetarian-ism, and I'm not trying to be mean or fecitious, it's just something that I don't get and even my vegetarian friend couldn't answer for me! But... How come chicken is not allowed but eggs are? Seems like it's the same thing to me. Thanks for your reply! Aloha!

I am not actually a vegan but I guess its the meat that vegans actually stay away from. Egg white and the yolk I think is not considered meat. By the way thank you for your message to me, I appreciate your compliment. Good luck and more power to you my friend.

Aloha! Thanks for visiting! A couple of the posts above say that vegans are the very strict of the vegetarians, and that anything "with a face" as someone said above, would not be eaten. Some say that anything from an animal, whether it is animal or byproduct, would not be. I'm getting that it's all a matter of personal opinion. But I love to hear the variations! sksouth above had mentioned non-fertilized eggs, which never develop a fetus, are okay. That's an interesting concept. Either way, I don't think that I could give up so much of my diet. I love food and just try to not overdo any of it.

Pure vegatarians do not eat eggs..or drink milk..they don't consume any animal products..there are less pure vegatarians that do drink milk, eat eggs, sometimes fish..but no beef or chicken..some eat chicken but no beef...It's really up to the individual..but if pure vegans...no..not a single animal by product..

Ok, so there's very few hard set rules, then? So it sounds like basically, no animal meats, but animal by-products are up to the individual. Hmm..about protein, I know you get protein from beans, any other sources? Anyone else that would like to chime in with any additional info are MORE than welcome. I'm trying to at least eat healthier. Although I don't even pretend to have enough control to be vegetarian...at least not yet. Aloha!

Pure Vegetarians do not eat EGG or Fish, as this means u have to take a life
But they do consume milk because u need not to kill cow/buffallo.
In India Cow is regarded as Mother as it provides milk. But ofcourse if Cow is given hormones etc to get milk this is wrong so try o buy organic milk
eggitarians eat eggs along with normal veg diet
and Vegans who don't eat any products from animals no milk, cheese or anything

What I never get, is how some people say they're vegetarian and eat chicken and fish. I saw a great t-shirt for these people, "I'm vegetarian, but I eat chicken, fish, pork, beef, whale, crab, snake, bald eagle, etc."
It ruins it for the rest of us when people do that. Because then I say I'm vegetarian and I'm told not to bring food, there will be food, and they made chicken just for me! It's ridiculous. If you eat chicken and fish by no beef and stuff, you're just on a diet or a picky eater or something. Not a vegetarian.
Eggs and dairy products are considered vegetarian, not vegan though. I'm vegan. I think eggs are probably the worst cruelty of anything. It's pretty easy for me to be vegan, except when people thinks that means I'll still eat chicken because apparently it's been lowered to vegetable status. ;)

That's a funny t-shirt! Yes, it's very confusing and you never know what people mean when they say vegetarian these days, so you always have to ask if you're going to prepare something that's absolutely not a plant. I tried a vegetarian sausage to make a dish for my friend, but the stuff was not very pan friendly as far as trying to get a crumbled texture. I found some pre-formed taro patties that arent' too bad. But...I STILL don't understand why eggs are vegetarian. And looks like there's no particular reason, it just is? sksouth above mentioned unfertilized eggs... that sor of made sense, although it is still an animal product. Thanks for your input! Aloha!

EGG & Fish are not VEGETARIAN. this is the truth
Just for the taste of tongue some vegetarians consume eggs saying oh it cannot form a chicken so it shud be veg
They don't think that egg has an embroyo and they don't knw the process how the egg is developed, If they will know they will stop eating it

I agree, egg & fish are not vegetables. And because an egg is not going to produce a chicken does not make it a vegetable either. So I guess our real problem comes down to the byproducts. Hey south! You here? Where does that leave road apples? Byproduct of vegetarian bovine grazing. Does that make it a vegetable?

Not all vegetarians eat eggs. Those that do are ovo-vegetarian I believe

Yes there are many levels of vegitarians but only one type of vegan and that is vegan-not eating anything with a mother, a face or a bowel movement- along with no prodcts that test on animals or by-products in it like shampoos or soaps- also not wearing leather, wool or silk- ect...been veggie for 12 years and vegan for 4 now. There is also Raw foodist- one past vegan no meat or anything and don't cook food beyond the degree that the sun cooks- this is the ultimate way to go back to our roots before fire.

That is a really good question. I'm pretty sure vegans don't eat eggs or even fish but I'm not positive, I'm an omnivore.
