Hi - my name is Misty and I am addicted to mylot.... Who else can say the same?

I only started posting on mylot a little over a week ago - but I have rapidly become addicted. Being on vacation currently has helped! But it is the first thing I do in the morning and the last thing I do at night... Also my day is punctuated by trips to the laptop to see how things on mylot are going!
It is the friendly nature of the people here and the helpfulness that has fed this addiction....
So who else out there needs to say the line "Hi my name is xxx and I am addicted to mylot"???
Or is there something else that takes precedence?

Hey there MistyWood
I too felt the same when I first started in myLot but recently took a much needed break away from it, a good couple of months actually. I am sure that in a years time or so the novelty will have worn off a bit but I am not promising anything!! Maybe you should start a new group, MA - MyLot Anonymous!!
Happy mylotting and I am glad you are enjoying it so much!

Hi Humbug
And thank you for joining us... I love the idea of "MA - mylot anon".... but then some people have their real names as user id's, or pics of themselves on their profiles so it couldn't always be anon... which is why I went for addicts (I was going to go for anon to start with...)
I am going to have to have an enforced break as of Thursday as I am back at work :o( booo hiss!!!
So do you have any advice for the newly addicted?

Advice for addicts? Hmm let me think:-
"Just walk away, don't look back and just walk"
Seriously though, give yourself a break now and again like you say, not much else can be done. You are lucky that you have work which forces you to have that break. Whilst you are at work it will give you time to think of some good original discussions to start once you are back home. Another tip is that if you do think of discussion topics write them down as soon as possible even if you think you will remember them because you won't, believe me!! haha

I like the idea of writing down the discussions - I shall have to take a note pad with me to work to write things down - because I will certainly forget them as I have a mind like a sieve!
Work will force me to take a break it might be painful - but I can do it... I can ... I can....
Well I hope I can.... you will know by the end of Thursday....
Any support you can give me will be most welcome....

Hi Misty!
I see some of the mylotters have stood up to say that they are addicted to mylot. You may also count me on the list and I'll raise my hand, as kids do in the class, "me too Madam".........LOL!
I have been here for pretty long time and I happen to be amongst the all time top 100 users. I feel that every day is a memorable experience of me on mylot and I get to learn many new things here, which otherwise, I might haven't learnt in my life. Happy part of my journey on mylot is that I made so many wonderful and nice friends and they have become integral part of my life. When I was not on mylot, I never the joy of interacting with on-line friends through such forum(s). I hope my journey would continue here and I'll add many more good friends in my list. It is such a great fun to see and find so many discussion, where I feel that I can share my views and can know about others.

Pl. read 'for me', instead of 'of me' in the 5th line
Pl. read, 'I never knew the joy.....', in the 6th line
In the last but one line, pl. read 'discussions', instead of 'discussion',
errors are regretted.

Hi mys- It appears you follow me very closely. You may say so that hiccups are causing errors.......LOL! To be honest, when I type, I type at pretty fast speed and sometimes the coordination between mind/thoughts and typewriting does not match and the end result is these kind of silly errors, which I feel bad, when I read the post again. Hope you understand.

Addicted?? I suppose so.. I've been here for about 3 years and though I don't post all that much, I'm usually on here every day, browsing and reading posts and sometimes responding to those that interest me. So yes, (waves hand in air) there's another addict here.

I'm the wrong one to ask. My discussions are hopeless - I rarely get more than 6 or 7 replies. Given your response to this one, I think that's its me who should be asking you for advice

Hi - waves back!
3 years - you are doing well.... I haven't been on 3 minutes in comparison...
I do spend more time browing than replying - but I am now getting the hang of discussions and replying and so on... I am also beginning to understand which discussions get responses and which don't... But I could still do with some help on this one... Any suggestions?

Is there any advice that you can give us as a recovering mylot addict???
Are there help groups out there?
Is it just a case of going "cold turkey"???
Please help!

You will never lose the addiction hun, but my life is interrupted during the day doing so many different things yet the eveining is the best for me to come here or if ppossible in the afternoon, yes it may take longer too get paid but if you look at the task bar at the top of your page then do one of them it does add up..but unfortunately yes real life does interfer, otherwise I would be here all day! lol..LoLo

Hi Cher!
Does that mean there is hope for me yet? I won't have that much time to spend on here much longer due to huge work ccommitments.. In fact they are taking the last day of my holiday off me as well :o(
Why does life have to interfere with mylot???

Hi Mistywood, I have been addicted since the day I joined mylot 3 years ago. I wish I can get rid of this addiction. I think I need to go under rehabilitation to bring me out of here so I can have more fun outside in the real world.
@MistyWood (349)
•
1 Sep 09
Hi Zandi - nice to meet you! Does this mean that there is no hope for me as I have been addicted to mylot since joining little over a week ago??? I enjoy the conversation the frank discussions - lacking in work now!
So these rehabilitation centres? Where are they.... or is that what mylot addicts refer to work as???
I will miss the discussions on here, you can get them in the real workd for sure, but I often feel that the openness that you get on here is then missing. I think that the anonymity of mylot provides good discussions... plus you get views from around the globe... not something you can do in real life? Or can you.... any thoughts?

Hi there Misty!
Me too though I can't stand up because I'm at work
and I don't want to be noticed
They know I'm here, well my bosses do, but the guests might think I have a lot of correspondence to catch up with.
I'm here for breakfast which is when those on the others ide of the pond are sleewping and I can catch up. Then I'm on and off until I leave for work and then, yes you guessed, I'm more or less on all the time from there too, dependiong on what I have to do.
I joined over two years ago and except for a break of six weeks last year due to an offline matter, I have always been here since. Home on line for me is here now and I can't see me moving anywhere else ever.
I knew you would become addicted as soon as I first swa you chatting away with us all in your first posts So happy that you are having fun too!

If I had told you what we have achieved? Nothing because you just mught have over-reacted and left. So I didn't say anything so that you would stay and realise all by yourself - when it was too late to do anything about it lol
I find that I change the way I say things when I am responding to a discussion by a user who does not speak English as their first language. I consciously try and make things clearer so that they will undestand first time round - and feel 'wanred' too.

I wonder what a gathering of addicts is called???
So.... mysd you spotted my addict tendancies before I did and you didn't let on! Phew! I could have missed out if you had ;o)
It must be nice to have a job where you can spend time on here as well... sounds good to me... (But if you believe the hype teachers only work 9am - 3pm!!! grrrr.... when I find who started that rumour.... let them walk a week in my shoes!)
I enjoy the conversations that I have with you all, and the fact that I am talking to people in other countried really has an effect on the way the discussions go... Do you find that nationality and gender of responder have an effect on the conversations??

Welcome Mona and thank you for joining us...
I can see why an addiction to mylot grew rapidly for you - I understand that it is good for developing your use of the english language (difficult as english maybe and I am a native speaker!)
I always want to see who has repsonded to me and what they have said - I think that is the most addicting part... If no one responded I would get bored pretty soon... please don't stop responding mylotters!
Any advice for the newbies on here? How to avoid addiction maybe?

It is very interesting on here - you get to read so many different opinions, many of which I would never have had the opportunity to hear/see without mylot...

Hi...(nervous twitch...) I...I'm Ruth (otherwise known as EnglishTeaDuck) and I am...gulp....I am addicted to Mylot.
I joined last week. It started slowly, but then I started to enjoy discussions, I met some cool people ....gosh darn it, I saw my earnings creep up a little!
I realised I had a problem when....(takes deep breath, lets it out slowly)...I went over $1 and got very excited.
I am a nocturnal Mylotter - most nights I was up til 1 or two anyway, I'm just one of those night owl types....so I justify my addiction by saying if I am going to ramble on the computer anyway, I may as well do it on a site that pays! But I am also unemployed right now, got laid off, so I have a bit of time during the day (when I get too annoyed with the job hunting!) too.
Whew....feels good to get it out....thanks for listening.
Keep coming back. Don't stop til the miracle happens. Or at least the payout. '0)))

Hi EnglishTeaDuck! (Love the name)
You joined last week and you are already on 150... how do you do it... I have yet to breach the 100 mark!!!
I would love to be anightowl, but as I am in work at 7am I have to be up by 6am... and as you can imagine that means early nights!
So... advice how do you get your number up so quickly???
I am also a rambling typist and I agree why not get paid for something you enjoy???

Hi Misty,
This maybe a little late, but yes I am addicted to mylot and have been for over a year now, not because of the money but because of my friends and the discussions the ones that make you laugh to those that make you cry, to get advice when needed and to do vice versa...so I do agree with you probably with a lot of people that it is very easy to get addicted to mylot!..LoLo

I also enjoy the discussions and talking to lots of different people - I am finding that the opinions of people from different countries are so very different and I am enjoying finding out about them.
The $$ are a small part of this... I actually like the discussions for what they are - even if it wasn't for the money I would still be posting on here....
So what do you spend you mylot earnings on?

Mylot is such a nice place and I am glad that I am a part of it, as I have never regretted my decision to join mylot, and if it weren't for mylot, I would have never heard of the other sites that I am doing as well.
