Choose - A President believer in God or A non-believer President?

Perhaps the president is the most powerful position in a country. History has shown true leaders and dictators that serves as a guidance in choosing the right candidate for future elections. God knows everything in secret so there is no escaping for a president to lie or make corruptions in his office. Most of us would say, non-believers can also be trusted, I agree with that but they don't fear anyone unless they can manage to hide it. What do you think?

I'd go for a non-believer kinda president. It's better since most decisions would be taken from a rational perspective and there would be no bias towards any particular religion/community. After all, religions and beliefs are just based on faiths/myths, not all of which can be true or proven. Accordingly some decisions may be under the influence of a 'wrong' belief and we never know it may involve heaps of power, money, resources, man-power et al which would ultimately go waste! Better trusting a person with no beliefs and keep it as simple as that. "God knows everything in secret so there is no escaping for a president to lie or make corruptions in his office." Sorry but that assumption isn't applicable anymore. You never know, when the influence of power, money, position etc. may change the mind of the devoutest of believers, ignoring his God's dicta. Besides, atheists also follow a code of ethics and of course, they too fear the law. Also, religion/God can also be misused by a believer Prez. For instance, s/he may sanction billions of dollars for an evangelizing institution, keeping the people in dark and later seek forgiveness from his Lord by making the excuse that it was done for a noble cause.

I think we are missing the most important point here. We all know, there will always be good and bad persons whether he's a believer or not. We are talking here about human conscience. Did it ever came to your mind that a president could corrupt indefinitely as long as he is never caught? Especially when no one is looking? Of course all president must make decisions rationally. I only agree that religion should not be imposed on the people and should not be bias with other beliefs.

Human Conscience: Yes you're right that it is the one that is supposed to make a difference. However, God is not a necessity in deciding the ways of the human atheist. Many atheists, (like me) are believers in Karma. And even if many others are not into Karma, each have their own code of ethics which are generally similar at least in the given context. So in sum, there is not much difference today between a believer or a non-believer when you want to determine the probability of corruption and other evils in the Prez's office.

Correction: God is not a necessity in deciding the ways of the human conscience. Many atheists....

God knows everything in secret so there is no escaping for a president to lie or make corruptions in his office what?? thats been goin on for centuries and though they may get "caught" in the long run, too late, damage done... I personally could care less what a leader believes or doesnt believe in their private lives, its not my biz....HOWEVER it MUST stay out of office..It wouldnt matter if the leader were Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Pagan, Atheist, Satanist or whatever..it HAS TO stay out of office AND cannot be forced upon the ppl....

We are not talking about using one's power to force the people what to believe. The discussion is about the president you will vote who will be exposed to temptations on corruptions because he controls everything. We just want a straight answer, if you were given only two candidates, both has the same accomplishment and agendas, but one believes in God and one does not, who will you choose?

Hi stevelvis, I don't believe that politics and religion mix so I don't think anyone should even ask if a president is a believer or not. His or her religion or lack of it has nothing to do with their ability to govern. Blessings.

I would rather choose a God fearing president. A president who knows how to submit himself to a Higher Authority is, for me, a president who will lead with godly wisdom, honesty and justice. As long as he makes himself accountable to that Unseen Higher Authority, he will not dare cheat or act unfavorably lest he displease the One who is the source his authority.

well, let's see...our former president was a religous, "compassionate conservative", or at least that's what they led us to believe. well, he may have been religious, if so though, very misled!! he definatelly wasn't conservative, he went on a wild spending spree, and turned constitutional law upside down and sideways. and he wasn't compassionate......no compassionate person could stand by while the people underneath his command proceeded to round people up, lock them away on some island far away from their homeland and proceed to torture them! so, well, two or three strikes right there, with just one president...] I've come to the conclusion that many of those in power, although the do a great deal of work to exalt one religion or another just want YOU to believe the doctrines, but they must not even believe in the God, because if they did, they wouldn't do half the crap they are doing!!! with, how did ya put it...oh ya, "the fear of God"!!
