It might be a virus or something like that. Try scanning your computer. If it persists you might want to format your computer.

It means that your computer has had a catastrophic failure in a vital piece of hardware or software. What to do about it depends on the exact nature of the cause of the failure.

Well it could be due to corrupt windows files.. You can try repairing your windows with SFC command.. just boot into safe mode by pressing F8 before windows bootup and select safe mode, after you get into desktop, in command prompt type sfc /scannow please note that you need to insert your windows cd/dvd into you cd/dvd drive for it to work and also insert to same drive from which you installed your windows incase you have two or more rom's.. and if you are using vista ,2008 server or windows 7 RTM, you must run command prompt in privileged more for it to work..

Ok since you are facing the same problem in both the OS,i feel it could be a problem with any incompatible hardware... if you had recently added any new hardware to your pc like soundcard, graphics card etc.. try removing that hardware and check if you face the same problem.. And if possible connect your Harddisk to another pc and give MBR virus scan,to check if you have any booting sector based virus..

It could be faulty RAM, wrong device drivers, faulty graphic cards or pci cards, corrupted Windows system files.
