My in laws (father in law)just turned 79 last Sunday.
His hair's gray and white, and can't walk straight without his walking stick.
His eyes were still good, and make him stay all day watching tv programs and movies from cable.
My mother in law is 72 yrs old.She still strong and do all the cooking and washing...the usual household chores.
I guess it's not the age to say who's old and young.
It depends on the body and physical capability of an individual person.

What an interesting question. I always your not old until you can't move.
Although typically older people do not know any of the new music, slang terms, clothing trends, ect...
I have always observed "old" women spend HOURS per day on the phone, and by hours I mean all day.
Some how old people have this ability to know everything that is occurring in their neighborhood, even if they never leave their house!

..hahaha nice way to describe... "everything that is occurring in their neighborhood, even if they never leave their house".Its by birth that women end to know everything. Its not just old women.
You are right that they talk all day long on the phone as its not possible to go & talk

Mmmm...how old do you consider "old" women? I'm 53 years old yet hardly ever talk on the phone as I have better things to do...yet I have a friend who is in her 60s and yes, she really does spend all day/night on the phone...as far as knowing what's going on in the neighborhood. Get this. She now lives in California (she used to live around the block from me in NY area)---anyway, on the rare occasions I do talk to her on the phone SHE is telling ME what is going on in my own neighborhood and knows more than I do.

Ok, allow me to add a couple more. First thing I notice is hair turning grey. People may differ at what age, but as one gets older, hair turns greyer. The second sign is that one gets tired faster. I used to do jogging in the park before. Now I feel easily tired if I do that. I just have to saty with walking only these days.

A person remains young till his / her heart remains young. He / She only became old when his feelings make him / her old.
The traditional definition of old age is somewhere around 65 years which has no basis in biological field. Many people are there who remain active and vigorous even at or after the age of 65 years while some become sick and inactive at the age of just 40 years. The question that how to know that someone has become old can be answered in different ways.
Chronological age is solely based on the passage of time. It is a person's age in years. It has limited significance in terms of health.
Biological age refers to changes in the body that commonly occur as people age. For instance, vision and hearing typically worsen as people age.
Psychologic age is based on how people act and feel. For example, an 80 year old person who works, thinks, looks forward to future events and participates in many activities is considered psychologically young. Such people are commonly described as "Young at Heart".

I don't agree with you. You can have all the symptoms mentioned above and still be young at heart. When you become old you start thinking like old people. Physical symptoms says that you are old in other people's eye, but you can still be young at your heart. I am looking forwrd for something like that. Happy mylotting.

What do you mean by young at heart? If you are weak physically you defenitely will become psychologically weaker.Where do you get the fun to be young at heart when you have lost everything in life?

Hmmm..I'm 22 yo I even feel old sometimes. Just last week I went to my high school camping trip for 12th grader (which is around 16-18 yp usually_ and act as a mentor for those kids. Seeing their bubbly spirit and how throw jokes to their peers as if there are no pressure surround them makes me want to go back to that age again. Stress while studying cannot be compared to stress on work. I prefer high school life more than office life, but I guess I should do reality check then and be grateful with what I have right now

..haha in front of 16-18 year olds you are considered to be old.Its always different with different ages. You cant be that playful when you were in high school. You now have some sense which makes you not to be that playful & in the mischeif mood.

I think getting old can be a state of mind actually...I know people half my age who "act" old...as far as my eyesight not being so good..I had to start wearing glasses when I was only 8 years old

...hahaha old at the age of only 8 years...hahahaha...ya its actually you can consider yourself old when you cant do your own things after a certain age may be after 60? Before that if you cant do anything on your own then its certain that you got a disease / crippled / cant do anything with an accident.

Hey,
You know that you are getting old, when you cant drive your car properly and find yourself in the other lane, when you try and pick up your keys off the ground and you injure your back, when you try and have *fun* but you can't for long. Make sure you have a good day, God bless and Happy Lotting!!

You know you have become old when you feel the music is to loud in the car or at a party, when you start eating more fiber. LOL LOL LOL. When you are sounding more and more like your mom. When your calendar is marked up with a majority of doctors appointments in one month than anything else.

Good day krupesh..Ahh this is a tricky question... Im not too old. Im 45yrs but let me tell you something. I have noticed this summer that my mind is getting weaker.
I have to write down things for a grocery list. I have to write down where I hide my money, LOL then I forget where I put the note that tells me where I hid my money at. WEll so much for that ideal.
I guess we all get older and notice that things do become more difficult to do. That is life..

Good day rose !
You should be happy that atleast you know you have money...hahaha...for the money to be in safe hands just give the note ,which you have written where you have kept the money , to your neighbour so that when you think of the money you can go to your neighbour but suppose if you have aleady forgotten to whom you have given the note then?

what an interesting discussion.
when your hearing is not good
when your appetite is down
when you are easily tired
when your face has wrinkles .
when your energy is not power.
when your tooth is not strong as before.
when you want to have the care of others.

Well maturity is a pat of life, also getting old tries to get it over us.The first sign would be our hairs,it would start to become gray and nothing gonna stop if its starts to show, except for getting a new hair wig as such or getting hair transplant. The face also starts to crumble and getting wrinkles too.The other symptoms that show are,the part of our physical body, becomes weak,we get hick ups frequently when engaged in a fast walk.
Prevention of old age would be going for healthy and fresh at the younger age itself with good food, and good daily exercise for a higher life n Earth.

Old age will come as its destiny but during the old age being healthy is so important,as you know we will have to make things right for ourselves during our old age. With good maintained diet that too good food will make one feel as if old age hasn't come even if it revolves around

A lot of interesting discussion is going on in this topic. I guess you are not old as long as you don't feel it. You will feel it only when you are old :) Nobody can describe old age. They feel the same like us except for their physical wear and tear and obvious loss of aware ness of the world. Otherwise you can see a lot of biggies who are all in their late 70's or 80's. But they are managing huge businesses and are employing a lot of young minds. I would say its not the age that says you are old, its the internal spirit to live and to be active in daily life.

I thought that I became too old the first time I went to the club and saw kids I use to babysit when I was a pre-teen and teenager. My best friend and I were in such shock, we didn't know what to say. They walked by and said hi to us and then it was confirmed.... we were old. Needless to say we finished our drink and headed for the door.

Well I really that if you're questioning or having doubts that you might be old, then you probably are. I'm not trying to sound harsh or anything, just trying to point out the mind over matter and how it works. Your brain is so strong that if you keep telling yourself that you are indeed old, the brain will respond by giving you health problems, you'll start to look older, etc. My sister in law who is only in her mid 40's convinced herself a while ago that she's old. Well, I hadn't seen for maybe 6 mos and when I saw her I saw that she appeared to have aged considerably. Her husband said to me that his wife had convinced herself that she's old and now she's looking the part....sad really I think.

you know you are getting old when you started falling sick repeatedly and you start to visit the doctors frequently, you also know you are old when people start to care much about your health , that is then you realize that you are feeling old

I have no idea, am still twenty five years old. but i think they're ar some differences between younger and older people. when become old, you tend to be wiser and mature unlike when we are young were very much idealist and fired up to our fashion. i don't think i can add any.......

You'll know when you got older when you wake up one day. seeing yourself in the mirror. seeing those changes. believing that you have indeed grown old. I believe that growing old is just a myth for as long as you stay young, keep yourself young and be young. Then you are not old. Just don't include medical condition that may arise soon in your life.
