Any other ways to handle rubbish other than burning them?

You know I have been leaving in the suburb of my city for quite long time,the reason I chose here to leave is beacuse the envirnment was cool and fresh,although it is far away from the city center,and I thought I did a good choice.But things changed currently,more and more rubbish,garbage,waste and everying was brought here from many places during the last few months,what's worse is that it is just about 4KM from where I live,then every night,I was suck and could not sleep with those smelly things,and I was forced to close all windows,but it made no different,the air in my house becomes smelly also as I closed the window,there was no ventilation. Then,currently,we are told that peple will build many municipal refuse incinerators nearby to burn all the rubbish,and we get totally crazy.As you know,thing gonna be worse if they burn the rubbish,lots of hazardous,poisonous substance may release from the rubbish during burning,and of course,we residents here appose the plan,but the relevant authorities won't give up,So now we are facing very serious problem here,we want protect ourself via legal ways. So,anyway,facing the case,do you think there are any other ways to handle rubbish instead of burning them?
