I don't think it is a crime to get converted. But what is the need? All religions teach the same thing and if you are really concerned about searching the ultimate truth, you can do it from your own religion. There are answers and guidance in each and every religion.Only a true seeking mind is needed.About the friend asking you to get converted,is it your girl friend?

So,she wants you to get converted because that is the only way to get her hands through marriage. If you are attracted by any religion and changing to it is different. But this compulsory conversion,I don't like to appreciate. Will she change to Hinduism for you and your love?I doubt this could happen. Then, why should you?

If i may butt in mohitseth, it definitely wont be easy for you to change your religion. Whatever religion it is, you would have to change lifestyles and it is something that you would have to embrace. Conversion to a religion is not just a name, it would be the way you believe.

How can it ever be a crime? It is your choice as what religion to take. Whatever you believe in, as long as you focus your life on God, then I don't think religion matters after all.. but as a Catholic it is still better to die as a Catholic..

Not here in the States. and even if it were , I would have still changed from a loosely practicing Christian to a middle of the road Jew. If it were a crime , I would go have kept it secret. Thankfully I can be Jewish out in the open. The only reason to change is because you feel the other religion is a better fit for you and yor life. If it isn't or it won't fit, then don't change.

It's not a crime in the United States. I think it might be in Muslim countries, but you should ask a Muslim about that.

Depends on the Religion. According to Islam, it is not a crime to change from any other religion to another Religion. Nor is it a crime to change from another religion to Islam. But it is a crime to change from Islam to anything else. Mormons used to believe the same. It was a crime to change from Mormonism to anything else. It is not a crime to change from Christian to something else. So it is important to indicate what perspective you are asking from. I personally do not know if Hindus view desertion from the faith to be a crime.

it can be considered a personal decision. but the purpose of the change can be questioned. what is it that you can achieve by changing your religion. i understand that you are 22 years old and were asked by your girlfriend to do so. you are still very young and the reason may seem lame (no offense). are you sure it is love and not infatuation. if she really loves you is she willing to change her religion to Hinduism? are you independent - are you earning (in case your family kicks you out of house for this) are you sure she is the one you will get married to? you see there are many questions you will have to answer for yourself before you take a final decision. don't act in haste. good luck.

Hi mohitseth, Changing your religion is not a crime unless it's against the law in the country where you live. However, it is not something that anyone should take lightly. If you are changing your religion then you have to be sure that you believe in the teachings of the religion to which you are converting. It's not something that you do because a friend asks you. Please make sure first that you want to change your religion, than learn about the new religion and be sure that you believe it's teachings and it's what you want. Always remember that one religion is not necessarily better than another. Blessings.

I think that if you change your religion out of true belief and faith in another religion, then no, it is not a crime, in fact it would be a crime not to (not literally a crime of course, but a sin, a disgrace to God). If you are changing your religion for any reason other than true belief and faith, for example, to be with your girlfriend or to gain material possessions, than you are doing a great insult to God. Basically, you'd be making the ultimate statement that there are things in this world that are more important than Him.

There is nothing wrong in changing your religion, but i think that you have to change your belief only if you really feel that your answer is that particular religion, not because someone asks you to. Everyone should find his own answer, even if the question is the same for everyone..

Crime is a violation of human right, an injustice given to someone. Believing in a religion does not make you violate the order of society.

For me as christian, it's a benefit to bring someone to Christ. People are always thinking their religion is the best, so do i.

No, converting is not a crime. It's not wrong either. It's your right to choose.
