My nephew is now about 2 years old and he usually stays up very late . He won't get asleep until 11 or 12 pm and gets up very late too at about 10 am or 11 am . As a result that he delays his meals . Sometimes he just eats two meals a day. Now he is shorter than kids much younger than him . I think kids should go to bed very early at about 8 or 9 pm and get up early at about 6 or 7 am. What do you think ? Sleeping earlier can help to build bodies.

It's good that when she is 15 she goes to bed at 10 . I know some of teenagers they stay up very late already.

The thing that caught my attention in your discussion was your subject line. "When will you ask your children to go to bed?"
You don't ask children to do what they should, you tell them. It is the parents responsibility to set the boundaries for their children. If children had the wisdom and self discipline to make these determinations for themselves they would not need parents at all.

Well i just think it's hard for a small kid under 2 to have any discipline . We have to ask or force them to form some good habits such as going to bed on time, eating on time. Thanks , good luck.

my son usually goes to bed when we do, that's at about 8.30pm at night or there abouts. he's up before i get back from work watching tv of a morning, then gets ready for school. even on weekends he's up early, it's been our life style being on a farm. you don't sleep late. if he wants to go to bed himself he'll get me to take him to bed. but i think kids should go to be a a sensible hour, or you may have trouble later on when their older.

Usually my kid goes to bed at around 7:30 but we don't sleep at that time together with him because it's too early for us and we still get a lot of chores to do after he is asleep.

I have a 4, 5 and 6 year old children. On school nights they go to bed at 7:30pm and get up at 6:30 to get ready for school. On weekends they go to bed around 9pm and get up at 7-7:30am. Hardly ever to my children stay awake past 10pm. During the summer I dont mind too much. They usually go to bed between 9-11pm during the summer but they loose out on a lot of sleep as they wont sleep past 8am for some reason. I dont believe in allowing children to stay up too late. It's not healthy for them. My 2 month old goes to bed around 10pm and sleeps until 6am but shes still an infant yet. I am slowly working it to 9pm and by the time she is a year old her bed time will be 8pm just like everyone else.

Yes parents should help their kids to form a habit of sleeping on time .

Even though I don't have kids(neither am I married ok), I think when the kids are small, they should go to bed before 10pm & that too regularly. this is due to many health factors involved in small children. Once the child is grown up, say above 14 or so, I think they can sit upto any time as they wish, provided they get sufficient sleep.

After i see your response the only one thing comes to me that you are from the same country as me . After i check your profile it does. Yes i think our education is somekind out of control and i don't like that at all by myself . Children always do a lot of homework which i think is not quite necessary . They should be relaxed and more free.

I have two children, a six year old girl and a two year old boy. Both of my kids go to bed at 10 o'clock each night. My daughter gets up at 7-7:30 so she can get ready for school. My son, on the other hand will sleep in late in the mornings to between 10-11. However, he doesn't take a nap anymore. He is of average size and strength and ability level. I have a lot of friends that have kids and the range of time between which the children go to bed is very broad. Some of them have children that go to bed as early as 7 in the evening while others go to bed as late as 11. I really think that bedtime for a family and child has a lot to do with that specific family. The reason that my children go to bed later is because their daddy works long hours and if there were to be in bed by 7-8 they would hardly ever get to see him and the family dinner would definitely be gone.

Well it's important for your kids to stay for some time with their dad . I agree with you that it's up to some specific family reasons although going to bed early is good for kids.
