Tight Economy...How Do You Cope?

In this day and age, it seems like almost everyone is behind on one or more bills. The tight economy is draining household finances at a rapidly increasing rate. With all that is going on, I often wonder how many Americans (and overseas) are struggling to make ends meet and keep a roof over their head.
Does anyone else feel like they are drowning in a sea of endless bills? Are some of you in good shape? What do you think our government should be doing to help, if any?
Has anyone gone back to 'cash only'? If so, was it by choice or force? Is anyone considering credit counseling or bankruptcy? Does anyone have experience with credit counseling? If so, was it worth it? (Really curious about this, as I am toying with the idea...sadly.)
Overall, how do you cope when money is tight? Do you have any tips or tricks to share with others that might be struggling still? I think we can all learn from each others experiences, whether in good or bad shape financially, so all answers are appreciated. Best of luck to all of you no matter what your situation! I know one day the economy will recover, but it's still rough somedays...

If it was my husbands choice we would have always been cash only. I haven't switched back to cash only. Our main cut back is we eat less expensive meals. I have found meals I could fix the family for a buck (that's 3 children and 2 adults). So when we need to cut back that's what I do usually. Being able to make a few bucks online is a helper because I'm home all day with my business anyways and have plenty of free time.

That's terrific advice, gina! Cooking at home and with cheaper ingredients is one of the best ways to cut back on expenses. Many people don't even realize how much they spend on groceries or eating out/fast food. The only thing I could add to your piece is to use coupons and shop on sale.
If you have a couple stores close to each other, then get what you need from either one, especially if it's on sale. Also, take that Sunday paper and go through the coupon section. It can really add up! Better yet, join one of the online coupon sites. Does anyone have suggestions from some great online coupon sites? Are there any other tips for saving on groceries and food?

Wow, being able to cook for a buck sounds great! Could you tell us some of the dishes you make? I am sure there are tons of people on MyLot who would love to be able to do the same!
