It's that I had a star rating of 7 Yesterday after a long period. For about 2 or 3 months my star rating was 6 and just yesterday, it increased to 7. But today, I see it has gone back to 6 again. I am really sad about this matter. Does your responses affect the star rating to go lower????? Has this kind of thing happened to u... Any reasons bhind this? By the way, is there a reason for MYLOT to give each member a star rating... Responses please....

It is the users who decide the star rating. They rate your posts using the +/-/! icons beside each discussion/response/comment and the number of plusses determines the value of your star. The more plusses you receive the higher it will be. You can hover your cursor over the star and you will see a number - that is the percentage of plusses that you have received. The star directly affects your earnings and they are higher if you have a higher star compared to whatthey will be with a lower one. More info can be found here: http://www.mylot.com/o/faq/faq17.aspx

Thanks for the link and the information. I never used to take notice of it. I guess I should keep a watch over my rating. But then again I don't want to get worried over it. Just want to enjoy posting.

Hi there! Indeed it should not be something to stress over. Just by having fun and posting useful interesting posts it should stay higher

I like your habit of posting my-lot links in all of your my-lot related posts. That is a good idea actually to get a good earning. Has your earning really increased by using links in your every response ? Just let me know!

hello duja, That star ratingcan increase and decrease. I don't have exactly reason why that star sometime stable, increase and decrease. One week ago I curious about this, but now I am not look my star rating. I only give response and do the best. Several mylot member said, that rating decrease because you get negative rate discussion. But that is no fact to proof it. Just keep your spirit

I don't think anyone will be so rude or you might have posted some really rude response to get a - rating! People should not give a - rating even if the person responding to the discussion is against what the discussion starter if for, only thing is your response should not be rude and if it has been written in really bad language or is completely off topic like posting your blog links only then they should be rated - or else ! which is reporting to be deleted!!

Join the club as mine went down too. I had a 10 yesterday too, and now it is back to a 9. There is someone out there rating others with a negative, just because they don't agree or maybe they don't like you, or they just felt like giving negatives. Mylot says they aren't supposed to do that, but they do it anyway. They don't understand that when they do that, they are hurting their ratings as well. I should have known that mine wouldn't stay at 10. I give postitives, even to those that will rate me negative. The rating systmem is being abused as users just love giving negatives I guess. I am not going to worry about it though, as I didn't do anything wrong, and I know I can get it back up again. I have had the red star so long anyway, it is actually growing on me. You can bet that mylot is keeping up on things and they will see to it that the users that are doing this won't keep doing it. Just hang in there and it will go back up. Good luck to you and happy mylotting.

you are absolutely right rose, those people don't know when one should give negative rating and when one should rate positive. My-lot clearly specifies that as long as the responses are related to the topic even if that person is against the opinion of discussion starter, one should rate it as + . One should rate anyone - if it is completely off topic or some really bad language has been used!

It happened to me too. I finally reached a '10' late last night but by 8am I was back to a '9'. I dropped from 96/100 to 93/100 and I only made a few posts yesterday - nothing controversial, no fights with anyone ever, I just do not understand... very sad now

yes, he is right, may be your posts or the main discussions got deleted, thats when your rating goes down, same might have happened with me. Because I did not post anything off topic or anything against some one but my ratings went down, so deletion might have been the reason.

The older mylotters has always helped me out. The only thing that I could add is..be consisted on your responses. Make them very descriptive. The more the better...

You are really lucky to have that 10 star with just 430 posts, some don't get it even after 1000 posts. You must have helped out a lot number of people who have rated you positive. I wish I had got so many positive ratings to reach at least 9 star!

I never knew about the star ratings. This discussion is showing me that my responses need to be informative and well thought out. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

you will get your star rating when you reach 100 posts. You will know then how many positive ratings you have received for your discussions, comments or responses. Good Luck!!

I am almost at 50 posts. About half way there. I hope I get a good rating. I try to give good answers and have well thought out ideas. After I have 100 posts will my rating fluctuate day to day or is it reevaluated at a specific post number? I look forward to your response. You are really helping me out. I appreciate this. Thanks, Jeremy

I kind of just ignore the star ratings. I would love it to be higher, but I seem stuck with a low star rating. I do not think I give bad responses, but oh well. I was at 5 forever, but then I went down to 4 within the last week. I went back up to 5 for one day and then ended up back at 4. I just try not to let it get to me and keep plugging along. Maybe, one day mine will go back up. I know that star rating does effect earnings, but I cannot really control how people rate my responses other than just trying to give good ones.

according to the rules you should get a positive or negative rating depending on whether you contributed to the discussion or not. Unfortunately some people give you a negative rating if you disagree with them in order to punish you which is against the rules but seems to be done on a regular basis. You probably disagreed with someone and they gave you a negative or several people and you got several negatives. Your star will bounce up and down, however if you wanted to stay high you have to be nice, stay away from the religious type discussions and political type discussions. I noticed the people that engage in these type of discussions have a low star rating someone's low as three which is a poopy Brown star.

My star rating has never gone down by '1' but yes the percentage has gone down from 84% to 81% . 84% was more close to getting a 9 star rating but it went down and finally settled at 81%. I am having 8 star for past 1 month now, it does not change at all. I think my percentage went down due to some discussion deletion in which I got positive rating. If the discussion in which you got a positive rate got deleted due to violation of my-lot rules, then your star rating will go down too. So, check the discussion before replying to it from now onwards, also my earnings got reduced
