do cats really have 8 lives?

i wonder if this is really true.but based on my experiences with cats, i think they really are because once my dad stike a cat in it's head,the cat just collapsed and after a few minutes the cant stood up again..

i don't mean to nitpick but isn't it nine lives cats are meant to have anyway the are very resiliant

Actually it is a myth, and the myth is that cats have NINE lives. I think that there is some other explaination for why the cat survived and it is probably that you dad didn't hit him all that hard.
