Come on!!! Seriously!?!?

Okay so...here's the situation. Two men (a police officer and a former corrections officer) claimed to have found a corpse of the legendary big foot...they put a picture up on the internet (I seriously just spelled that 'enter net' LOL)...anyways...the story/photo got a ton of reaction from people all over. Then the two men come out and say it was just a joke, and that they didn't mean for it to turn into something as big as it did... Well....the police officer was fired for this, which I think is ridiculous! They made a BIG FOOT joke! That's been done, what? A thousand times!? Has everyone that ever claimed to have found proof of big foot been fired? In my opinion, the cop should not have been fired, a joke like this doesn't mean he is a bad person that can't do his job well. The men are also being threated with criminal charges! Again--has everyone else who ever made a big foot claim been to court for it?? Their lawyer says that they have done nothing illegal, and I agree with that. What are your opinions on this?

This in some senses is a tough call? Should a cop even play a part in such a hoax? I say not. But where is the media, the (activist) judges, and the whole center of attention when cops commit regular atrocious acts of brutality-I've watched several hours of video collected over the last decade of police brutality...ahem, before I so rudely interrupted myself... I don't believe the cop SHOULD've done this, but I definitely believe that if falls in his first amendment rights--he didn't threaten the president, yell fire in a theatre, endanger or incite anyone, so, in my opinion, maybe a professional act of censure, but certainly no criminal or even civil court acts should be upheld. DR...

I agree with what you're saying! Cops have been blamed and fired for REAL reasons (as you mentioned, brutality)....and this guy--after SIX years of serving--gets thrown out because of a BIGFOOT hoax!!! Boooo lol :D

Well there you have it... The additional context that is needed. Still, for his CRIMES in the past he should've been charged...for this, just fired.

Lamb if you have to post that link on everyone's response at least put it all together with what you have to say. I'm aware now that this story is a year old, I'm just hearing about it so it's new for me. And I've found articles and stories that don't mention them taking money, so this one link that you're supplying is the only one I've seen that claims they took money. Just because this happened a year ago didn't mean this guy hadn't been a cop for 6 years before he was fired.

The whole plot seems to be a hoax. The narrative itself is tale telling that nothing of this sort happened or even if it did, it happened not with such a boom. That the cop was fired is justified for he is not supposed to indulge in such action.

What they did does not justify this guy having his career ruined, what he did didnt't cause anyone any kind of harm.

Yeh, I think that is a bit much, come on. I can see maybe getting put on suspension for a short period, but to get fired? Plus criminal charges? Doesn't it seem like there is more to this story than what you're hearing though? That just seems pretty harsh to me. I don't understand the criminal charges, why?

I watched the first news report on this story, then I watched the news story of the two men talking about it...it doesn't seem like anything more is behind the firing and charges. They said they found big foots body, MANY people did NOT believe it...so it's not like they hurt anyone!

Sounds like a bit of an overreaction to a photo being published. It might be a different story if they were somehow making shady money from it, but for a picture? Over the top, I'd say.

During the two news stories I watched on this, they didn't make ANYTHING from the story. They just put up pictures on youtube, and other sites--that's all. I feel sorry for them for everything that is happening to them because of a practical joke.

That's hilarious XD I think they have gone a little but too farther. It's just a joke people, relax! It's silly and stupid, I hope they don't have any troubles _

Here's a link to the video, it shows a picture of it--but it's not very clear. I think you can look their video of it on youtube really easily. http://edition.cnn.com/2008/US/08/21/bigfoot.hoax/?imw=Y&iref=mpstoryemail#cnnSTCVideo

Sounds like the chief had an over reaction to for something silly. Didn't the guy who made the first big foot tape, state that it was all a hoax while he was on his deathbed?

I think it is a little harsh also. I can't see how they can charge them with anything. There are so many worse things going on to worry about something like that.

Well, without knowing the whole story, I can't say whether they did anything criminal. I mean, did they take money to show the pictures, did they do paid interviews about it, things like that would be considered fraud. As for getting fired, I can't see firing someone over it but at the same time it shows poor judgement on the officer's character that he would outright lie and deceive ppl even as a joke. There's jokes that are funny and then their are jokes that are inappropriate. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

cops are just human.. they need 'time out' and play jokes and pranks, like 'normal' people do.. but i guess, they do have certain 'limitations'.. if the video was only accessible to 'certain group' of people - a group that they could have some control of.. that the joke was only on that group of people, but to make it a 'public' viewing ?? - i would be upset, too.. if i knew my neighbourhood cop played such a joke on everyone.. true - legally, they may have done nothing wrong.. but i wont be able to put my trust in such 'playful' cops..
