How many people WERE on the ark when the Flood occurred?

We all know what the Bible says, but is there a possibility that it leaves something out, due to unimportance? I'm not preaching heresy or anything...just trying to look at facts. The Bible, just prior to the account of the flood, speaks of the Nephilim, and the giants that roamed the earth in those days, and ALSO afterward! Since God sent the Flood to destroy the wickedness spread on the earth due to these angel-human hybrids, how were they on the earth AFTER the Flood as well? Some people speculate that they had abnormally long lifespans...able to live thousands of years, due to their not-completely-human nature. Thus is the legend of King Og, who ruled Bashan, and was defeated by Moses, Joshua, and the Israelites many years later. There is a legend that says Og was enslaved to Noah and his family for eternity before the great deluge. Instead of entering the ark, Og was allowed to sit on an isolated plank OUTSIDE the ark, and passed his meals...much like a prison setting. Technically, he never was allowed to enter the ark, and thus, allowing the bloodline of the giants to survive the Flood. I am not stating this as fact, only quoting legend.
Also, take into consideration the amount of animals that had to be present on the ark, allowing for hundreds of species that have become extinct since then, and try to explain how 8 people can care for thousands upon thousands of animals for over a year on a dinky* boat...
*I say dinky, because I was stationed aboard a nuclear aircraft carrier, which is more than twice the size of the ark, and being underway for only 6 months feels VERY confining!
What's your take? Have you heard of anything different?
Again, I'm not questioning the Bible...I believe it tells us everything we need to know. I'm only asking "how did the giants survive the Flood?" If you can shed any light on this, comment! Hope to hear from you soon...

To begin with as suspenseful said that the angles didn't produce with the women of that day. The sons of God were those that remained faithful to God and the daughters of man were those that had turned their backs on God. The genes for giants might have come down through the family of Noah.
As for the animals that were in the ark. There wasn't really that many animals to go into the ark. All the different dogs we see today have come about through breeding, either on purpose or because of environment. They have all descended from just two dogs. The same with the cats and all the other animals.

Good angle...
unfortunetely, "sons of God" is used synonomously with angels throughout scripture, as well as the righteous, so there's a huge what-if factor there. Read the Book of Enoch, which predates much of the Bible, and it goes into so much detail that is impossible to fabricate to expound on this whole topic...
I surrender the dogs and cats thing, and for that matter, elephants and things like that, but you have to consider the hundreds of extinct animals...dinosaurs, megafauna, etc...
Due to the apparent greenhouse effect of pre-flood earth, not just humans, but animals are believed to have grown larger as well to accomodate the larger lung capacity to breathe the heavier air...
Yes it is possible that giant blood came with one of Noah's daughter-in-laws...it would, however, have to be a dominant gene in order to repopulate the earth with races of giants after that, especially since Noah's geneology was pure and "righteous", meaning that his son would dilute the traits of that gene with pure human dna. So yes, it's possible. It's all so very possible...

and for the record, God created angels with the same free will and choice that humans have. Otherwise, why would Lucifer have rebelled, causing a third of the angels to choose to join him? Angels have the ability to appear as men, and perform the same things man can. Once, however, that angel covets and takes what was meant for men, he becomes a fallen angel. God will not intervene on this action, unless it goes as far as it did before the flood, when this corrupted race of people inhabited almost every bloodline.
The chief reason for my immense disbelief in the whole "righteous men" going to "unrighteous" women is this. In the Garden of Eden, it was foretold by God himself, that His seed, a human, would be the downfall of the serpent. Satan, by causing an impure and corrupted human race, would succeed in eradicating the possibility of a human defeating him, so he set the plan in motion to desacrate the race of man, with his fallen angels. Thus began the great deception. These angels brought the wisdom of the heavens to mankind, which far exceeded anything man had on his own. This is where we learned to make weapons, make metal, dabble in magic, and perform rituals, among many other things. Although, in the Book of Enoch, God himself states, that of all the secrets shared with man, they were meaningless compared to the ones He Himself held. As for the angels who took themselves with women, they were bound and imprisoned for millenia.
I understand your unwillingness to believe in the possibility that angels would have performed this sin with humans, I really do. Most people, in fact, are ignorant to this possibility, but the phenomenon of Free Will runs rampant through creation. God will not intervene on anyone's free will. The created will always suffer the consequences of the choices they make. It is the Law that enhances the Free Will given...
The beauty and value of our worship is based on our desire to worship our Creator.

There are always a number of unknowns when you have stories from the Bible without the original context and then try to match them with legend or other historical sources and therefore it pays to keep an open mind.
These are the points that I would like to add to the discussion:
**Often we are told who was in a place (like the Garden of Eden or the Ark) but we are not told whether there was anyone else of 'lesser' rank or importance.
**It has been pointed out to me that the flooding could have been relatively localised and the writers may have been unaware of the exact proportion of 'the entire world' that they occupied. ie. believeing that their known world was indeed all of the world in existence.
**I have been told that if you actually look at the dimensions of the Ark as specified in the Bible, it was:
1. a viable floating vessel suitable for the purpose
2. sufficient to hold all the animals that were required.
You could argue that there were Nephalim outside of this flood region, that Noah's family carried the Nephalim gene, or that the observers who reported seeing Nephalim after the flood were mistaken (after all presumably they had never see the phenomenon before). You could (and people will) argue 'til they are blue in the face, but we are unlikley to reveal the real answer...

I do not know if any giants survived the flood. There were only Noah, his wife, his three sons, and their wives, making a total of eight souls. However, we cannot discount that perhaps one or more of the wives may have had giant dna in them. I do not think that there were angel human hybrids and I would assume that God would have given Noah the insight to recognize such, not only that, that they would have had features or strength that was more then mortal man.
Also we do not know whether the animals were baby animals and also considering that there was only one species of cats and one species of dogs. And we have no idea whether the conditions before the Deluge made animals and people grow taller then normal, including the dinosaurs.

The Bible clearly says that only eight people survived the flood (I Pet 3:20), about the giants i have heard people say that they were not angels or some heavenly beings but people who feared God. Noah would not have taken well grown animals but only the small ones, just imagine a huge elephants, Giraffes, Dragons etc...the space wont be enough. Regarding the reason why people used to live long i guess one can watch the video of Kent Hovind who elaborates on it clearly.

It appears that the author of book of Genesis had borrowed the idea of the flood from other religious beliefs. The mythological stories of flood in books of other religions as well confirm that at a remote period in the past, fire or flood did destroy the world. This had happened because of humankind's wrongdoings.
A Mesopotamian mythology has confirmed the geographical realities of a land that was exposed to sudden flooding by two great rivers Tigris and Euphrates. A similar account we can read in Gilgamesh epic. It is a Babylonian epic of Sumerian origin. In a heroic narrative it says, "The high God Enlil sends a deluge to destroy the mankind." Only one man Utnapishtim, survives in a cub shaped ark he had built. He carried with him stocks of the seeds of all living creatures. The story resembles the Biblical story of Noah.
The motif of the flood is also written in Indian and Greek mythology. In another Chinese myth, the Emperor had asked the Chinese hero Yu to bring floodwater under control. Yu built canals and it too Yu 13 years to bring water into control.
An aboriginal Australian myth also contain an account of a great flood, which has relevance with onslaught of Ice age due to rising temperature and consequence rise of sea level. In several other versions, the flood is the work of the great serpent or rainbow snake Yulunggul, who sends it in anger due to pollution of his water hole by two Wawalag sisters, Waimariwi and Boaliri. Yulunggul devours them along with their children, but after the flood regurgitates them. The inhabitants of the new world were their progeny.
While the flood myths show the destructive power of the water, the creation myths recounts the origin of the world out of the watery abyss or primal sea.
Moses perhaps had narrated the story of Noah to the Israelite while they were wandering in the desert. Through the story he had revealed to them God's redemptive features through a man like Noah. To Israelite floods and rains were unknown occurrences. They did not even know that the ark is merely a curved vessel and not a ship. Only ships have a hold to carry the possession of the kind that went into the ark with Noah. Besides, to survive 40 days in a heavy deluge the ark must have a bulk, volume and water tight compartments. Further, the ship ought to be made from a highly seasoned wood. Did Noah build such a ship single-handed?
Nevertheless, the story of a charming shipbuilder, in a sailing vessel, with bowsprit and rigged mast; floating in flood; having men, women and animals had greatly fascinated the people in Moses's times and the people who read and hear it today. The story might have kept their hopes alive and it is able to raise our spirit even today.
The story of Noah reveals God's redemptive plan for us. It reveals the God's word that He gave us. The word of God is, whenever man would be in distress, He himself would come to save him. Moses was there to lead the Israelite. When there would be none to lead us then God would come himself to save the humanity.

There is a problem if you take the bible literally. How big would the ark have to be to accomodate all the species of animals. Where would they have stored all the specialized foods that some animals take. I think it is a lovely story but not to be taken literally. The stories in the bible are there to teach us something to help us to lead a decent an moral life but they are not to be taken at face value.

from what i understand it took many years before Noah was able to complete the boat. So in advance before that great flood occurred that he was warned and was told to build a boat on such design and measurement and to bring each kind of animals in pairs. so with such preparation that he was able to make a big boat, big enough to bring all kinds of animals. i believe that something were not told or left or not explained on details. maybe those animals that thrive by water and could survive any flood was not any more brought into the boat like sea snake and etc. and so only those that will not survive a flood would need to brought inside the big boat or else if every single animals will just brought into the boat that the boat will not big enough to bring all those kinds of animals. and i think that not every animal noah need to collect. how about insects and mosquitoes they would survive any floods and droughts and etc so they don't need to brought in pairs. and if they would, i wonder how they will be able to catch each of those species. ha ha.
anyways, it was written that men get to be so wicked that God found it necessary to wipe all men, except noah and his relatives from the face the earth. and i have read those giants from angel and human hybrid. i could not really understand what the book is referring to. but whatever it is i am sure that they really existed before. and whatever events told in the book are for me were true. and i don't question it.

Well imo the bible is some kind of instructions which have to understand. Many things do not make sense but lets put it this way......
A polar shift of the earth is overdue. When this will happen and we are not prepared for it the human kind and those animals which are not protected will all be exterminated due to to the extreme weather and natural disasters.
The Noah ark is some kind of indication what we have to do so that the human kind will survive this natural event.

Hmm interesting , I would have to go back and look at what it says. I think it must be kind of important that it WAS only Noah's family though because the whole point was that he was the one righteous man God found and the one He chose.
As someone else said, I don't know if any of them WERE of that line and therefore it got passed on?
Interesting to hear about your nuclear aircraft carrier, I suppose when whatever size of vessel is your whole world for a period of time it would become confining.

Hi, ChaoticBeauty
I try to read the whole bible since I am 12 years old. Guess what? I've done it 3 times now. Until now I try to read the whole bible continually. I am now the Deuteronomy.
Are the Nephilims survive the flood?
Answer: All the Nephilims don't survive the Great Flood. All of them drowned.
Genesis accounts that the flood covers the whole world and surpassing the
world's highest mountain back then up to 15 feet deep.
The bloodline of the giants able to survive the great flood?Answer: Yes.Goliath which King David fought is a 9 feet giant. Many other evidences.
How is it possible?
Answer: Remember that the Nephilims Noah's day ruled the entire earth. They get
wives as far as their eyes see. Possibly the wives of Shem, Ham, and
Japhet or they themselves has somehow got the giants DNA from their
parents, grand parents, grand, grand parents and so on. Hiding somewhere,
waiting to emerge again. The fact that there are examples that seems we have
giants DNA in the modern times like Yao Ming and etc., shows that until now
we have the Nephilims DNAs.
