Will You Get a Flu Shot?

It's that time of year again and the signs are everywhere. Get your flu shot! Well, not me, no thank you! I understand that for older folks or people with weakened immune systems that this vaccine is extremely important. However, I am still in my 20's and had a flu shot once before, in my younger 20's, about 5 years ago. Guess what I got? That's right, the FLU! No, not from the shot, but months afterwards. While the vaccine may have kept the everyday common flu away, it left me completely vunerable to a nastier strain. It was THE WORST flu I have ever had in my LIFE!!! The first day I was so ill that I had to sleep sitting up, simply because I was sick everytime I got up from laying down...YUCK! Further more, I had to spend 3 days home from work because this flu was so terrible. After that ordeal, I will never have a flu shot again. No, thank you. Bring on the common flu, please. :-D What about you? Will you get a flu shot this season?

I have never ever had a flu shot but I have also had flu only once in my entire life. I work among people so I guess I become immune with them coughing and sneezing all over the place but this year is different and I am concerned. The government is making the swine flu jab compulsory from mid-Septmber here for people working in many different areas of work and mine will be one of them - tourism I am scared to have this jab as I fear, just as you suggest, that it could bring on someting that would not otherwise have happened. If there is any way I can get out of having this jab then I will because I don't want it!

I never had a flu shot and I seldom had a flu in my entire life I can fight the virus and I'm recovered with it with no serious complications. I only have headache and cough when I had a flu. The vaccine for influenza here is very expensive so that's why very few people here are vaccinated. Much more if swine flu going to in the market it is much expensive and only rich people can afford it.

I know nowadays H1N1 still seems to be serious. However, I don't have a plan to have any kinds of flu shot. I don't think it will work well. Besides, it will somewhat have negative effects and I think it is risky. If you pay attention to your diet and health, I think you won't be so easy to have the flu. I love China

I probably will because I always seem to get the flu in January, and it is just aweful. I did get a flu shot last year and I did not get the flu, but instead I ended up getting a sinus infection with a double ear infection, and an infection in my chest. That was not fun either, not quite as bad as the flu, but pretty bad.

Not me, no way no how. I've never gotten the flu shot in my entire life and I've only had the flu twice in my life. I even worked on an infectious disease unit of a hospital a few years ago and didn't get a flu shot. I just didn't feel that I needed it, by immune system is pretty strong and it is actually quite rare that I get sick and I don't really like to get shots so I know that I won't be getting the flu shot.

Ok, well first of all maybe you are not aware that the "Flu Shot" does not keep you from getting the flu, it only helps to minimize the effects of the flu virus, hence keeping you from being as sick as it sounds that you were last year. Many people have the misconception that it will keep the flu away and that is completely wrong. There is a newer treatment for the flu out there that I have heard from doctors and others, is more effective and covers more strains of flu virus than just getting the shot does. It is a nasal spray. It is also supposed to be able to get into your system a lot quicker as it travels through the membranes. Maybe that would be an option for you to look into.

I have mixed feelings on the subject of flu shots. It is probably a good idea to get one each year, especially now with swine flu threats. I've had the shots and not had the shots. It didn't seem to make a difference. I was going to get the flu or not get the flu.

i never get flu shots and will not get a flu shot even for H1N1. the less vaccines the better. if your immune system is strong you can fight the flu no matter what strain it is. you have to rest, keep hydrated and take lots and lots of vitamin c to kill the virus. before getting sick it is helpful to have a strong immune system to fight the virus off. no flu shots for me or my son. i refuse to put that crap in our bodies.

I have never gotten the flu shot. It makes me feel weird to have something shot into me to prevent me from getting it. I guess I might at some point but I feel there are other people that would need it way more than I. My health is not too bad and I am still pretty young. I might somewhere down the road if I feel the need but this year I think I will pass. Take care and nice topic to discuss. Happy mylotting to you:)

No matter if it will be available,I think it is right to recieve the flu shoot, since N1H1 is defferent from other flus and it can kill young people even they are strong and heathy. In your situation,I think sometimes the shoot just does not work for some kind of people. It is normal that not everyone will respond to a certain immune reactive;just as there are always some guys surviving no matter how terrible virus coming.

I decided many years ago that flu shots were not for me. I told my inmune system to behave, lead a sheltered life with good food and appropiate clothes. I´m 64 and I get a cold every 5 or 6 years. The kind that you get a runny nose and that´s all. So I say, why bother me body if it is defending itself wonderfully? Happy posting and take care

I had my flu shot this season but not because of swine flu. Last year, i was down with flu eight times and i was not able to report for work. it really depends on the performance of my immune system. I reckon that my immune system had not been working well last year even with the doses of vitamins that i get. If i get sickly with flu again this year, i will certainly have a shot again next year. So far, i had been healthy for the past few months. So i guess i wont take the shots next year.
