How is recession affecting you?

My tourist visa was approved so I decided to resign from my previous job since there's no way they'd allow me to have a 6-month leave. I thought it won't be so difficult to find a new one considering that I have an extensive work experience in my field. I began to worry however when I was in the UK because of the number of companies shutting down... Now I'm back here in the Philippines and although it has only been 3 weeks, I haven't been getting feedbacks from the numerous applications that I've sent. I also notice that the classified ads in the Sunday papers are getting less and less. I don't regret my decision to leave because I badly needed the long break then (too workaholic over the last 9 or 10 years), but this is becoming ridiculously longer that what I've intended:-(
